My neighbors were afraid the foxes would hurt their cats. They were wrong.

  1. Mine play with them constantly. much to my annoyance. In the city, it’s probably far easier for foxes to pull a discarded KFC from a bin than potentially lose an eye to a cat so they tend to leave well alone, merely in my admittedly limited experience. Nature is nature though and I don’t like them being around the garden given the danger they pose, cute as they are.

They do seem a lot friendlier than I’d imagined, often running around together. I still think tensions arise; I found my cats playing with a mouse in the back garden and then realised there were two foxes there too. The cats seemed to think it was a game whilst the foxes seemed to view it as a snack. The cats got very pissed off when one fox picked it up and ran off with it.

  2. “Oh, what the *hell* do you want…look, mate, *piss off!*”

  3. Years ago, when I was a kid, I saw one of our cats chasing a fox across the paddock.

  4. A big Tom cat can kill a fox if cornered. Best for both animals however to try and mitigate contact if at all possible. Cats are free roaming so appreciate that’s difficult.

  5. He was a young fox wait until he’s a little bugger then snap, bye bye kitty. If your neighbours were that concerned they put him in the laundry at night.

  6. Canids in general prefer flight to fight. They’re fairly flimsily constructed animals compared to other carnivores and are easily injured.

That fox was displaying calming behaviour (the Downward Facing Dog yoga pose), but cats respect only shows of strength.

  7. Yeah, this is what the worry is though – not that the fox will attack the cat, but that the cat will do as cats do and pick a fight with the fox and not back down, lol

  8. This looks like it was filmed as a HBO series set in New Mexico
