  1. Your one on the radio saying it will only really affect “strong drinks”… My fuckin hole. Yeah Budweiser blows my head off alright.

  2. watch as the government pretends to be shocked when the use of illegal drugs increases because its simply cheaper

  3. Typically cynical move by government. Lines the pockets of supermarkets & pubs.

Won’t stop hardened alcoholics as they’re addicts.

However, will push students into drugs as it’ll be comparatively cheaper. Especially with high rents that they’ll have to cover… we have real geniuses in charge of policy these days.

  4. power Gold Label whiskey is 25 euro for a litre in supevalu at the moment, enjoy your last decent deal

  5. This is the **minimum** charge for alcohol, you can add 20% or 30% on top of everything there and it’ll still be less than what we’ll be paying in 6 months time.

  6. I’ve many alcoholic homeless around who rely on their few euro for cans and food. I know which one will take the hit here.

  7. I’ve been looking to get into a new line of business yeno, I live in Derry 3 minutes from the border I’ll certainly do a few trips into the south.

  8. So is it possible to get the percentage of sales of alcohol per supermarket before and after this is implemented, would be interested to see the figures after a few months at least..

Wouldn’t it be gas if the sales dropped dramatically and they all start complaining, maybe people will start brewing their own…

  9. Look forward to upcoming explosion in the use of drugs and the inevitable shrug of the shoulders from Government when faced with the issue.

But oh yes that precious precious VAT will make it all worth it.

  10. Fucking hell… some increase in cans.
    Publicans be happy.

Oh wait pubs are closed at silly hour at the moment.

  11. I remember when the Government put this proposal to the EU they were told it was against EU trade laws, that was a few years ago but what’s happened since, are we just going against EU law?

  12. Head up north, buy your beer and your food for the month, save a fortune and nothing goes into the government VAT coffers.
Iys the only way to say FU to this!!

  13. I’d almost be better off in the pub.

Whatever dry shite wants this is in desperate need of being scooped off the lawn of politics and dumped in the doggy bin.

  14. It’s so funny that a can of Galahad is €1.57. Lol. As if anyone will ever buy a single can of it ever again when Bud is the same price. Junkies have some taste you know? Pisses me off that a bottle of Lidl cooking wine shite like a Conde Noble is now 8 euro. Its literally 50 cent in Spain

  15. Let’s do an example.

Johnny is a father of 3. He drinks 8 cans a night and even with the changes to the prices of alcohol will continue to drink 8 cans a night because he’s an alcoholic.

Now at the moment this is costing him around 12 euro a night (€84 a week yikes).

Let’s add on an additional €4 with the new pricing because the pricing change isn’t going to stop Johnny drinking he still needs his drink this ups his weekly spend on alcohol to €112.

Now where is he getting the extra money from? Oh that’s right his weekly food budget. So either some nights he / the kids go hungry or the overall quality of their food drops.

Pricing won’t solve shit fuck off FG you really live in your own little world and don’t understand shit.

  16. Brought to you by the same people who thought that forcing shops to put a 4 foot wall with cowboy saloon doors in front of the alcohol section would curb the nation’s drinking habits

  17. I’m going full on cynical here but are they doing this because now most people are buying their alcohol in the shops instead of the pub because of the 8pm curfew and generally people isolating. In which case, very not cool corporate overlords.
