Why do you have people talking about communism, given that there was no real communism in Europe as such? Only puppet governments.
Thanks God that he did not send colgosps and five-year plans on you.
I’ve been there, honestly I don’t see much of a difference in these photos, outside of the flowerbeds— and the Soviet cars are gone
The communist one looks better imo. Why did they pave over all the greenery?
What’s communist about this? The cars?
Buildings are definitely pre-communism. Same for the statue. The parking lot and the roads have been eliminated from the square and its now a no car zone. Same thing happened to a lot of downtown areas in Europe the last 10 years.
TIL about [Mosque of Pasha Qasim](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosque_of_Pasha_Qasim), very interesting. Pecs has been on my “to visit” list for some time now, this photo reminded me that probably I should do that sooner rather than later.
Did…did they plant some flowers?
I’ve been there a few times in the summer: It is extremely hot. There are a few trees on the sides near the buildings, and some very small ones scattered standing in pots. Otherwise no vegetation, and no significant shade of any kind, just the big open space and the blazing hot paving stones. I do not know why they created that urban desert as a central square. The city is nice though.
I have some pics of Pécs from the 90’s… somewhere
I honestly think the space looked more compelling and inviting before.
Since i live in the city i can tell y’all…the square is friggin hot in the summer. Also, it is paved with chinese limestone and the drainage system fails almost every year during heavy rain and turns the streets that go down into a waterslide, and let’s not talk about winter.
The main change seems to be that the removed the cars and added pedestrian areas. /r/fuckcars might like that.
That doesn’t look like a communism problem, that looks like “the past having a hardon for cars” problem
