  1. Joint statement by the Heads of State and Government of the People’s Republic of China, the French Republic, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Russian Federation and the United States of America to prevent nuclear war and avoid an arms race.

For nearly two years, France has been coordinating the work of the five nuclear-weapon States in the run-up to the next Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference. Today, France, along with China, the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia, is issuing a joint statement by the Heads of State and Government on their determination to prevent nuclear war and avoid arms races, which affirms that “a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be waged”. France remains mobilized to make a positive contribution to the 10th NPT Review Conference and to preserve the authority and primacy of this Treaty in each of its three pillars: nuclear disarmament, nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful uses of the atom.

  2. I mean if we could pact to avoid being obliterated we could pact to avoid… you know, war and all that kind of things…

Man human beings are so weird

  3. Wow man so nice of them that they don’t want to turn the world into glass while killing billions of innocent people that have nothing to do with their fragile egos.

  4. If nuclear weapons cease to exist, the lack of a ‘mutually assured destruction’ of the world’s major powers will ensure that WW3 will be inevitable

  5. A cynical reading for why this statement is being released now would be that it is laying the political groundwork for “why France won’t help the Ukraine (or Lithuania etc) if they are invaded”.
