Dutch riot police clash with anti-lockdown protesters

  1. Totalitarian methods. People mauled by police dogs, beaten on the ground.
And politicians from this country dare to lecture others about ‘democracy’.

  2. I love how people think the Netherlands is liberal and democratic just because they allow pot and prostitution, but at the same time mayor Halsema has cracked down on every single protest in Amsterdam with brute force.

  3. You guys are too fucking soft.

Prostest was not registered, you got dozens of angry people on the streets that are the bigger threat to citizens health and well-being than the virus. They are spreading misinformation and rising tension in already stressed society.

People participating in this protests wasn’t peaceful so don’t expect Police to pat their heads.

For me it’s a plus it’s show’s that Netherlands doesn’t care about PR that much and if something will go bad there are enough forces to stop criminals.
NL can’t be too soft right now, after all those news about A’dam mafia shootings in daylight.

Keep steady course Netherland. Stabilization ia the key in these times

    PS.
In communist country or totalitarian one, they will track you, your family, friends, whole internet activity, search your house and throw you in jail for attending protests. I don’t think so it’s a case in NL

  4. I have just spent the past christmas with no restrictions in England. I am going to a giant rave this evening my life is wonderful, I am vaccinated, thank god I live here.

Surely, the rest of you are getting pissed looking at England and seeing how free we are? Even if you think we are being reckless Ireland and France have had these brutal restrictions ruining everyone’s lives and are doing just as shit as us.

Imagine locking down a fully vaccinated populace. Whats the plan Dutch? When you reopen the wave hits anyway so whats the plan?

  5. This could be avoided by:

    1. Trying to not escalate conflict against the police

    2. Not imposing stupid lockdowns

Imagine being fully vaccinated and still kept inside by the muppets leading the government, and then we all act shocked when more people get radicalized and right wing parties votes rise in all of Europe, next crisis we are truly fucked

  6. Translation: Dutch riot police beat the shit out of protesters, for daring to protest without authorization from their benevolent rulers.

    *North Korea vibes*

  7. When I see these kinds of scenes in Europe I completely understand why other regions in the world never want to take lectures on morality and human rights from the “civilised”
    Western world.

  8. I feel like people in this thread are lacking the context of why the Netherlands is in lockdown right now.

It’s basically because we simply have way less ICU-beds and thus nurses as other European countries due to budget cuts. Of course it’s easy to say afterwards that this was a dumb decision and maybe it is, but other than pandemics the ICU’s were never full and thus it kinda made sense to not have too many of them.

Now that’s kind of biting us in the ass, because we can’t really afford too many hospitalizations. And it’s kinda hard to just increase the number of ICU beds, because they can’t get specialized people to work there and training new ones takes years.

That’s why they decided to introduce a lockdown, even though we don’t have that much more hospitalizations as our neighbouring countries.

  9. Retards being dumbasses who got their ass whopped by the police, I honestly don’t feel bad for them.

  10. Dumb protestors, should’ve attach something like race, religions, sex or gender before they protest, no squeek from the government if they like “Lockdown is white supremacy”, or “Lockdown oppress the LGBTQ”, or “Lockdown is Islamophobic” or “Lockdown hates POC”, if they do that and burn something down, even reddit will call them peaceful protestors.

  11. I (obviously) don’t live in the Netherlands and I’m not going to tell them how to run their country. I also find the beliefs and arguments of the anti-vaxxers to be wild, even unhinged.

But something about the state enacting orders and then cracking down on people for protesting those orders just doesn’t sit well with me.

  12. Why do people keep conflating opposition to restrictions and anti-lockdown with conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers? Just because some idiots in an entire croud fly a Trump flag or whatever it doesn’t invalidate the whole protest. I’m sure you could cherrypick bad examples in any protest, and use that do discredit it.

Honestly what it does is people are afraid to speak out against absurd measures, out of fear of being labeled something they’re not. I think most normal people are against restrictions at this point, but they won’t necessarily protest.
