This is a typical heater in a typical house in Germany. Anybody knows if this is run on electricity or hot water through the pipes?? Like is paying for this heater is part of the electricity bill or gas bill or what?

  1. Hot water…. water will come from a heater that is either fired by diesel, gaz or pellets i suggest.

  2. It is not an electricity one. It can be gas, district heating or something else.

  3. This is a rather old radiator, it doesn’t create warmth but rather transmit it from hot water inside into the air in the room. The hot water typically comes from an oil or gas burners for older buildings like this.

  4. This is a radiator, in there is water that is heated elsewhere in your building, most likely in the basement by a central gas or oil heating plant for the building. Usually heating is the biggest part of your Nebenkosten (cold water being second), and at some point your landlord sends you a bill, where they calculate how much heating you used vs what you paid and either give you money back or ask for more money.

  5. Just go knock on the door of a neighbour and ask them about what to expect.
