Ägypten verlegt Truppen an die Grenze zum Gazastreifen, weil es Angst vor der Vertreibung der Palästinenser hat

  1. To everyone asking the Arab world to accept refugees, they already are:
In 2015,[ the Palestinian refugee counts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestinian_refugees) are:

    Jordan: 2,117,361

    Syria: 528,616

    Lebanon: 452,669

In the case of Egypt, hosting Gazan refugees will destabilise the relationship between Israel and Egypt, because everything Egypt does regarding Gaza has to be discussed with Israel. It also risks the possibility that Palestinians cannot return to Gaza, thus failing the emancipation of Palestinians as a whole.

  2. The egyptians would rather see their “MUSLIM BROTHERS” die from hunger and thirst and fire then to allow them reside and scape through their huge land

  3. Hmm, where are the cries of “genocide” directed at Egypt for preventing the civilians from escaping?

  4. Regarding the question of accepting Palestinians into northern Sinai, according to [The Washington Post](https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/10/13/egypt-gaza-border-palestinian-refugees-israel/), here are the reasons:

    > The government is concerned about security in the Sinai region and wants to avoid being seen as complicit in a campaign that could force Palestinians out of Gaza for good.

    > It is far from clear that large numbers of Palestinians have any desire to flee their home for Egypt, despite the dangers.

    > “Politically, I don’t think any Arab state wants to be seen as helping the displacement of the Palestinian population,” said Timothy Kaldas, deputy director of the D.C.-based Tahrir Institute for Middle East Policy.

    > Even if accepting large numbers of refugees was politically palatable, it would be logistically challenging to accommodate them in northern Sinai, humanitarian and rights groups say.

    > It would be difficult to prevent Hamas fighters from slipping into Egypt among groups of refugees, Kaldas said, and Egypt might fear weapons would cross over and fuel militancy in Sinai.

  5. There was a pro Palestine and anti Isreal rally in a country far away from Isreal or Palestine. People on reddit were calling to boycott some business and products from Isreal. I argued that these boycotts will only effect the local franchise owners, and instead they should send hard earned money as aid to Palestine and also pressure their government to open borders to innocent Palestinian civilians fleeing the war. My post promptly got down voted and later removed.

Edit: I guess the same folks are down voting here too. Sigh…..

  6. From the article, it does sound like Egypt is preparing to take in refugees. Identifying potential places of shelter and such.

I wonder how they will decide who to take? Women and children under 15 or something like that?

  7. Is the Egyptian army really going to shoot Gazans that try to cross the border by force?

  8. Egypt has always treated the Gazans poorly. Then again, Gazans tend to be nasty guests at best.

My expectation is that the population will gather in the south and create so much pressure the Raffa exit will basically pop and there will be an uncontrolled movement into Egypt

  9. People in the comments have no fucking clue what they’re talking about and think this is some kind of video game,

    1. Egypt is already dealing with overpopulation; a very young population of 103 million, with only 7% of the land habitable
    2. Egypt has very little resources, Egypt imports most of its food and they’re very low on water security especially since Ethiopia started cutting on Nile flow
    3. Egypt is on the brink of economic collapse; Moody’s recently downgraded their rating to Caa1, which means they’re extremely close to sovereign default. Their annual inflation rate surpassed 100%
    4. Egypt now has war on all of sides of their land borders
    5. Egypt already has a high number of Syrian and Sudanese immigrants and refugees
    6. Egypt cannot even properly defend the area near the border with Gaza due to it being a demilitarized zone according to Camp David accords.
    7. As the war continues, the battle will move southward and Hamas might attempt to attack the border to flee into Sinai
    8. Sinai is a major tourist destination in Egypt and it brings in foreign currency which Egypt is already desperate for given their economic crisis

Accepting 1.1 million Palestinian refugees into Sinai is a recipe for disaster and will create a new south Lebanon.

Egypt has every right to deny their entry until there are plans on who will fund their stay, how long will they stay, how will Israel make sure the border remains secure during the war, and also get confirmation from the US, the EU and other Arab countries that they’re willing to take in some of the refugees.

Until then, Egypt cannot be blamed for not letting them in.

  10. All these Muslim Middle East countries sitting on millions of square miles of open land don’t want to allow other Muslims to settle there. Got it.

  11. This is horrible on all fronts. Inside Gaza is not safe, Hamas is trying to blockade safe areas and take away people’s ability to get to safety and using them as human shields. The Palestinians even started calling the IDF, just see their X page. Now, Egypt doesn’t want to accept refugees despite that being a safe haven for them temporarily. That’s also where aid can flow through. Why would they completely prevent all of them from entering?

  12. Step 1: Israel steals Palestinian lands with the help of Great Britain, and later the UN.

Step 2: Get mad on Reddit because Egypt won’t fix the situation.
