It is easy to be the opposition party since there is no real expectation that you have to solve any problems. Whereas the majority party is expected to do things.
Not true… They will always scream all the time. This is how they operate. Everything is an outrage and someone else’s fault.
Surprise, surprise. The truth comes out. It syncs neatly as well with the fact that Republicans have now proven to the world that they are dysfunctional and incapable of governing, even when they have the majority.
The GOP lacks any ability or desire to govern responsibly and for the greater good. Most of their members consider politics as only a sport for their own amusement while choosing to embrace only the most disgruntled citizens and most dangerous groups in America. The majority of their concern is individual advancement and greed.
So, when people show you what they are; believe them.
The GOP has long since abandoned Abraham Lincoln’s desire for a “government of the people, by the people, for the people”. Indeed, the GOP is now just a big tent for corporate greed, narcissism, terrorism, and incompetence.
Abe would be deeply ashamed.
And, sadly, that sentiment would be lost on a party that has no shame.
GOP is a clown show. Gets worse every day
Not an inaccurate criticism. Someone’s glamorized the easy road, made it sexy to be down in the mud. I don’t know who, maybe all of us did that, bit by bit.
For my money, this is just Nietzsche. This is what he meant by “God is Dead,” not something especially religious in and of itself, but that when you have a house predicated on a foundation of values, and you take a sledgehammer to that foundation, the house ain’t gunna hold.
Well, plenty of folks are still religious, but our popular culture is secular. That’s a good thing, but it comes with a responsibility to fill the void, an obligation to read the rest of the text and say “yeah, we have new values, no we aren’t nihilists.”
It’s hard to come up with real values that you can justify, it’s hard to both work people to the bone and then turn around and ask them to hear about why they should pay taxes, why their life should be harder so we can afford to send aid somewhere they’ve never heard of. It’s hard to to give people John Rawls when they have Twitter.
Of course there are representatives who want the easy road, there are millions of voters who are sinking cost hoping that road goes somewhere. I don’t know how to sell the hard road. Moral obligation and the great mission of the State to the People worked for me, but I’m a sucker.
The GOP should just stay the course. They’ll find themselves back in the minority soon enough.
How’s that different than the past 40 years of GOP politics?
Don’t they do that anyway?
Well, they’ve already demonstrated pretty clearly that they can’t actually govern.
Because they are rewarded with dollars for that behavior
Republicans are unable to govern by definition. They see government as the problem.
They are in the minority and literally that is all they do already.
“I’M JUST A DOG CHASING CARS.”
-A sizable portion of the Republican Caucus
Nice, still someone honest in the GOP.
clearly
That’s the Republican platform. Less government. If they are operating, they want to stop it. If they are in power, they can stop it. If they are not, they scream about it but don’t have to do anything.
I have no problem with any minority. Only those who want to control and oppress others for their own wealth and advancement.
Like children!
They want the power but not the personal responsibility
I’m sorry, who’s throwing the power tantrum right now over the speaker of the house, weakening the entire legislative branch also the government during an international crisis involving a nation that has heavy bipartisan support?
Or has space lasers, dick picks, and weakening the US military somehow become civilized behavior?
RepubliQans are the dog that caught the car. Once it does, it doesn’t know what to do with it. The GQP with a majority in either house of Congress only knows how to pass a bill to lower taxes on the rich. Period. Full stop. They don’t know how to govern. They are not interested in governing. They are happier griping and moaning that the “Democrat Party” isn’t doing things the way they would.
Always so much easier to tear things down.
I think I could name a couple of those.
The GOP quite literally has no platform anymore. They’re going to act like an opposition party no matter what because that’s all that they have.
I think we all knew this. There’s a large minority group of republicans that get elected just to be angry, and profit from doing nothing (because they know their constituents are batshit crazy/they know the party itself is batshit crazy and maybe they don’t want to contribute to anything) . The issue is, there’s also a large minority group with far right beliefs that wants to actually act and do some really wild shit, then there’s another smaller dying out group of old school republicans who we once thought we’re crazy, but they’re basically the moderates now, they just want to keep cutting taxes on the rich and corporations, keep building up the military and keep cutting social welfare programs.

I’m ok with that. Let these grifters fleece the MAGA while the adults run the country.
Translation “the GOP can’t govern but they can whine like little piss babies real good!”
Because they dont want to actually govern. They just want to cling to power and enrich themselves.
Well when you have literally no ideas to gocern other than cut taxes for rich people paid by cutting things for everyone else. Of course they would.
Could?
Of course they would. It’s a lot easier to break stuff than it is to create something good.
GOP learns governing is not so easy.
That’s fine. Work with dems and get your wish. Win-win
Obviously. They haven’t been hiding it for a long time. Winning a Republican congressional seat has been more about fucking things up and making connections to make you rich rather than being a public servant for a lot of their caucus for a while now.
He’s right, they make a lot more money sitting in the sidelines bitching how they can do it better than actually doing it.
I still believe that Trump never expected to win in 2016. He wanted a run, then to make millions doing rallies and be a conservative mouthpiece bitching about Hillary.
That would also explain why his campaign had no victory speech or transition plan even drafted.
They’re already doing that in the Majority, wtf are you talking about liar.
Not a single congressman should be paid or receive any benefits including health insurance, until a Speaker is elected
“Why are my coworkers acting like the logical end of what I set up three decades ago?”
Right, because *that’s* what we want elected officials to do. Act like whiny children instead of adults.
Headline news: The party that hates government doesn’t know how to govern. Puppies at 11.
If only there were 6 republicans who were willing to resign. The other 200+ could all pitch in, sharing their grifting with the 6 resignees, and then all of them could blissfully sit back, let responsible adults run the government, and whine all they want on the right-wing talk shows. It sounds like a no-brainer, so they ought to be able to figure it out with a little help.
It’s pretty obvious Republicans pull the religious tactic of God. Wherein it’s god did this or that. Then if God put Republicans in prison it’s democrats… Seems like God wants Republicans in prison by their own logic.
‘some members’ …..pretty sure it’s ‘most members’.
Do away with gerrymandering and you’ll be in the minority. Problem solved.
He is correct – it is far easier to lie and blame rather than come together and work towards actually helping Americans (that are not their donors).
In other news sky blue, water wet, police still racist.
