    It’s a lot more politically safe to support Israel.

    Islamic militants want to murder normal people no matter what. Israel has nukes and outguns the shit out of their adversary. It’s not like Hamas can cut off flow of resources or appreciably rearrange geopolitics beyond being fucking assholes.

    It’s infuriating… Palestine has genuinely been trampled on for decades.

    Hamas did the *only* thing that could get the world to turn away from their suffering. Now Israel will keep being run by wingnuts, and we’ll all watch far right lunatics kill everybody over whose God can beat up whose.

  8. A lot of things wrong with the argument. I think we’re going to find out soon that support for Israel is far from decisive or long-lasting outside the US. Also, nobody except the US is actually sending military aid to Israel. Many nations are sending lots of it to Ukraine. Support for Ukraine has held for 1.5 years now, European verbal/diplomatic support for Israel may not last for 1.5 months. Also, no risk of WW3 with nukes here, so it’s safer to be decisive. It’s a bad argument.

  10. That’s a load of BS. I’ve never seen so many countries united and pulling together to help Ukraine and continue to do so, even if war fatigue has had some impact. The war in UKR is pretty black and white. It’s an aggressive nuclear armed invader with a brainwashed population attacking without provocation a smaller sovereign nation.

    The situation between Israel and Palestine is more grey and blurry due to the long standing differences they’ve had since the 1950s.

  11. Israel is already all propped up; I don’t think we’ve needed to throw anything additional at it, other than the presence of the Ford battle group sitting there. It was already sitting in the Med, making it’s presence known in range of the Black sea. I hear we’re sending the Eisenhower to cover that.

That’s simple: Republicans hate spending money unless it’s on the military, they don’t very much like the idea of funding Ukraine in a war they belief Russia will win eventually and they consider Russian nationalism to be a model for the United States. They also believe that Israel plays a role in the second coming of Jesus, believing if they give enough aid and support to Israel then Jesus will come back and usher in the end times (which would probably result in the Jewish people all being exterminated and sent to hell). It’s a genocidal, doomsday ideology and Ukraine simply does not have a part to play in this concept. They’d rather not send weapons to fight an country that is secretly supporting their campaigns.
