>“A week ago, we saw hate manifest another way in the worst massacre of the Jewish people since the Holocaust,” Biden said. “The humanitarian crisis in Gaza – innocent Palestinian families and the vast majority that have nothing to do with Hamas – they’re being used as human shields.”
>Biden added: “We have to reject hate in every form.”
*”Joe Biden gets attacked for doing the right thing”*, could be the saying of the last 3 years.
I bet that changed his mind.
I wish a Democrat had the courage to take on ADL and AIPAC. They don’t even represent the views of most Jewish Americans.
The main problem with Israel and Palestine is that the Holocaust blinds us to recognizing Israel as a nation “defending its homeland,” when in reality they are conquerors in which we in the West are using the Holocaust as an excuse to turn a blind eye.
Israel is *not* related to the Holocaust. Palestine in the 30 and 40s didn’t round up jews and ship them en masse into Germany. To start with, it was British controlled since Ottoman collapse. We are *not* obligated to equate Israel as just compensation for the Holocaust.

The UN itself states:
>During the 25 years of the [British] Palestine Mandate, from 1922 to 1947, large-scale Jewish immigration from abroad, mainly from Eastern Europe took place, the numbers swelling in the 1930s with the notorious Nazi persecution of Jewry. Over this period the Jewish population of Palestine, composed principally of immigrants, increased from less than 10 per cent in 1917 to over 30 per cent in 1947.
The indigenous jewish population at the time of Ottoman collapse was **less than 10%.** Ottomans didn’t practice some kind of Jewish specific genocide either. That’s just the natural state of that land for centuries, if not over a millenia, as a crossroads for regional powers. For anyone looking at it objectively, a **foreign** population came in and with open conflict displaced the homelands of the Palestinians, who have lived in the land as the majority population for *over a millenia’s* worth of generations.
This is the nuance. Israelis are **conquerors** with regards to Palestine. Israel should be acknowledged as such, and not elevated to something like Ukrainians defending their homeland.
In light of viewing them as conquerors, the displacement and (mis)management of open air prisons known as Gaza and West Bank has been concerning and is *increasingly* concerning. *Especially* as Israel has been systemically settling and now displacing both areas, further marginalizing Palestinians in their own homelands.
We don’t need to support Palestine but we should unequivocally **not be supporting Israel.** If Israel succeeds in their conquest of Palestine, they’ll just be yet another conqueror in the history of the region. Should they fail from lack of US support, be allowed to fall the same way as any other regional power has over the course of history. It’s not our problem when we have other more important allies in the region (Sauds with actual oil, as deplorable as they are.)
Of course, it will take a while before the religious nutters holding US politicians hostage over this matter die off. Until then I suppose it’ll be blind faith support all the way through when Israel demonstrably does not need any help systemically displacing Palestinians and suppressing them whenever they lash out.
“Japan bombs Pearl Harbor but now wants a cease-fire”
I have full confidence that Joe Biden with the guidance of Kamala Harris will find a way to solve this puzzle. It is sometimes hard to feel optimistic, but that is how I feel. Watching him hone his craft on the world stage has been mesmerizing. The people saying he is “too old” are for gifting that with age comes wisdom.
JFC the conversation surrounding Palestine is unbelievable juvenile and doctrinaire. I’m watching consent get manufactured right before my eyes.
Israel is just supposed to do nothing about civilians being attacked? That’s a ridiculous position.
Over 700 children have been killed by the IDF since the start of the war dropped bombs a thousand per day
At what point will people stop and think what the IDF is doing is inhumane?
The guy who interrupted Biden should be telling Hamas to ceasefire they’re the ones who started this war and they are the only ones who can end it right now if Israel lays down its arms Israel will cease to exist
I’m beaming at the idea of the rich old assholes at the Human Rights Champagne clutching their pearls at this.
The Pro-Palestine protestor who interrupted him, was also Jewish.
Must be an anti-semite! /s
Pro-Palestine at an event hosted by HRC, an LGBT rights org, is…a choice.
Imagine being thanked for your solidarity as you are thrown off a roof for being queer.
How can Biden not see that the whole point for Netanyahu is to engulf the entire Middle East in war? It’s the reason for the pre-war attacks on mosques that started this shitshow.
Maybe the protesters should shout release the hostages before free Palestine.
A reasonable condition for ceasefire is for Hamas to surrender power in Gaza. They cannot remain in power in Gaza after what they did. Gaza needs to be de-Hamas-ified and the US should thank Israel for providing the boots on the ground to remove them.
Only one side would actually adhere to the ceasefire though. Israel could stop shooting today and the rockets would continue tomorrow.
So in Biden’s mind, Israel is using [white phosphorus](https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/10/12/israel-white-phosphorus-used-gaza-lebanon) against innocent Palestinian civilians in densely populated areas, violating international law because…Hamas made them do it?
Would love to take an official position of sarcasm with hecklers like this.
“Ok. We’ll get Bibi on the phone for you and you can try to convince him to act as you advocate. Let’s see how that goes for you.”

Never assume what is happening publicly is everything that is going on. Quiet, behind the scenes pressure got the water back on. Its probably going to act as a control mechanism on the ground somewhat, too. There are a lot of past administrations that wouldn’t even care.
Should have yelled at Hamas while they murdered babies and maybe all of this wouldn’t happen. Brave kid in America. Give brave and stand up to hamas. They won’t let civilians leave the north
I consider myself on the left but I’ve seen a lot of bad takes by leftists recently in regards to the war here.
Like some people are actively posting Pro Palestinian stuff on IG all the time but they didn’t say a peep about Hamas needing to stop their terrorist attacks or even calling out the massacre that started this latest round of fighting to begin with. People just see things in black and white and think a 2 party state will automatically solve everything but it’s way more complicated in that.
Ask them if they support the terrorists of Hamas and if he supports gay equality.
Is hamas gonna stop sending Rockets I to Israel?!?!? Probably not
Maybe don’t kill 700 people at a concert.
