  1. >Before she left her house that evening, she printed out her will and put it on the table, along with a letter to her family. “I really did not expect to make it home,” she said during a recent conference on teaching difficult topics in the current partisan political environment, particularly in Florida.
    >
    >The controversy in the rural county just north of Tampa started when a newly elected school board member, backed by the conservative Moms for Liberty group, reported a fifth-grade teacher for showing “Strange World,” a Disney movie with a gay character, in class.
    >
    >*While the district had already closed its investigation into the teacher, the school board meeting that spring evening would decide the fate of Superintendent John Stratton, whom Moms for Liberty wanted removed.*
    >
    >***While the meeting was heated on both sides, a majority of students, educators and parents who spoke voiced support for Stratton and the school district. Eventually, and unexpectedly, the school board voted to keep him on as superintendent.***

*“A rural red county in Florida stood up to Moms for Liberty and said ‘no,’” Gates recounted.*

  2. Fascism has always been at war with education, teaching, and learning.

  3. eventually the republicans might get their way. all the liberals will flee Florida, and the racist, evangelical, flat earther, nazi-worshiping idiots will flock there to fight off ever worsening hurricanes and rising sea levels, with help from no one but their guns, in their ideal, totalitarian dictatorship, and be free* to worship their psychotic, orange jesus

    ^*freedom ^may ^be ^severely ^limited

  4. Imagine a world where teachers in red states actually were able to do their damn jobs.

  5. “Tell me who your enemy is, and I will tell you who you are.” – Carl Schmitt

Republicans enemies are Democrats, educators, LGBTQ people, universities, judges, Disney, big tech, California, libraries, election officials, atheists, immigrants, Ukraine, Coca-Cola, Bud Light, climate scientists, historians, critics of Confederacy, civil rights advocates, etc.

  6. I just hired a teacher who was excited to take a pay cut for the opportunity to leave the profession. Her last day is thanksgiving break and she starts with my company on January 1st.

  7. The kids that didn’t do well at school became resentful, grew up, and someone of them ran for office. With their new political power they are retaliating against the people that made them feel stupid, so they can establish a new age of Floridian idiocy.

  8. That is the point – ignorance is next to hate and violence in the maga platform for destroying this country.

  9. >That’s the feature, not the flaw.

    Republicans, probably.

  10. Of course they are, Republicans’ war on teachers is in effect for a while now too: unless they teach what DeSantis wants, OUT- GONE. That’s the reality in Florida, among most other GOP states (Texas, again, the leader that kicked it off).

  11. Florida is being destroyed by Ron DeSantis. Whoever still thinks this man has done anything good for the state, needs a serious reality check.

  12. less educated peoples are easier to influence…plus they make cheap labor

  13. Maybe someone can help me find the clip, but I remember watching a Short or video or whatever when the GOOs book banning and attacking teachers started about a year ago(the video).

In it an old guy is standing at a podium in what looks like a public statement meeting or school board meeting.

He talks about how when they asked their grandmother what those numbers on her arm were, she said nothing. What was it like growing up when you were our age? She said nothing.

But when the grand mother found out that they were going into the teaching field, she was very proud and she then and said to him, “They came for the teachers first!”

Can’t find the clip, but if anyone has it please link it.

  14. FL Native here. I know of at least 4 different people in my high school class that went into teaching. None of them do it anymore.

Shit job for shit pay with shit support and nothing but worse shit to look forward to for the rest of your career.

  15. This is exactly what republicans want. They say the schools are failing then do everything in their power to make them fail. It’s all so they can replace public schools with vouchers and funnel government money to hucksters and Bible-thumpers tax-free

  16. CA likes teachers and health care workers. We also have oranges and Disneyland. Just sayin’.

  17. That’s the goal. DeFascist put a School Choice freak on the state’s Board of Education. Extremists hurting as many people as possible.

  18. Would love to see any of the clowns bagging on teaching make it through ONE day in a classroom.

  19. This is the price of totalitarian government. Keep people ignorant, suppress opposing opinions, feed the ignorant masses into a meat grinder for profit. This is not a new tactic. Support the oppressed

  20. And all this time I thought it was because integrating the schools was not going to be a failure.

  21. This is what upsets me the most, it’s the misplaced anger towards books.

“There are books in the library that have gay characters and they are having SEX! That’s pornography and should not be in a k-12 library!”

Ok, so there are books in the library with gay sex. So what? Are you kids reading it? Are your kids reading ANYTHING? Have you seen what is available on the internet? facebook? instagram? TIK TOK? There is literally scattered ass and live action only fans commercials in their pockets, and you’re worried about a fucking book they probably never read? In PA there is a rule in place (or there used to be) stating that 800 books is the minimum. What are the stats on those books? Are they checked out? Are they even being used? Oh no….the BOOKS are the problem. Right….got it.

Nope….fire all of the teachers and admins…..indoctrination….pornography….rabble rabble rabble. And it took these fucks a global pandemic to actually give a shit about what’s happening in schools. And now they are upset over BOOKS? GTFOH.
