How do you remove this radiator from the wall?

  1. This is an apartment and the heating system is communal. There is only one valve to turn off the radiator, the return pipe at the bottom does not have an isolation switch to isolate it from the system.

If this has to be done by a professional, does it have to be the plumber who maintains the system for the building?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

  2. Oh god for the love of everything call a professional.

If not done right this can literally fuck up the heating of the whole building.

  3. Short answer: you don’t

Long answer: the heating system is under legal protection and may not be manipulated by anybody but a professional. As the tenant, additionally, it’s not your property. If you got issues with the radiator, call your landlord. You may not hire somebody yourself without their approval.

To dismount a radiator from the wall it’s necessary to remove all water from the heating system unless there’s valves for single radiators, which is usually not the case. After that you can remove the pipe connections and then finally lift it off the hooks that are mounted on the wall.

  4. You can break it, ask your landlord after all it’s not your property you just rent I assume

  5. You call a plumber. If you do this yourself and you cock it up (which you will, unless you’re a plumber yourself), then even insurance won’t pay for the damage.

That thing there has a lot of water inside and if you don’t do it properly, you’ll flood the entire house.
