There were 1.4 million Palestinians in 1948 and today there are 14.5 million out between Gaza and WB out numbering the Jewish population of Israel.

Israel would love it more than anything if the Palestinians didn’t exist. That’s why they cut off water, power, and food to over 2M people who didn’t do anything except live in the humanitarian disaster that Israel shoved them into.

Besides, Israel is in the position and probably the mood that it doesn’t want a ceasefire, and Hamas is most likely not in the mood for a ceasefire, so it won’t happen.
Seriously, the UN expert would be more productive if they could work on and create a way for Israel to avoid killing civilians, while losing the lives of as few of their soldiers as possible. That is what the UN wants, so they should help come up with a way to do it. Though I personally doubt there is a way, because that is not how war works. Battles in heavily populated areas always kill more civilians than soldiers.

A ceasefire can happen just as soon as Hamas unconditionally surrenders. Then no more bombings or displacement will occur. This is what happens when you do a surprise attack and declare war. Hamas is the government the Gaza Strip people voted for and their Government launched a massive surprise attack in Israel. You reap what you sow.

Palestinians as a whole have actively harbored and collaborated with terrorists responsible for the murders of citizens from dozens of countries. Most of whom can’t seek justice themselves. Israel needs to dole out the punishment on their behalf.

I know the UN is going to UN, and I’d love a sudden ceasefire end to hostilities, really I would, but asking for a ceasefire while hostages are unaccounted for and not even MENTIONING it? At least mention you understand that there ARE hostages unaccounted for? The UN is very insistent on always putting in everything started only after its own resolution in 1948, but the immediate context I guess is skippable?

Because the UN cared so much about ethnic cleansing about a month ago when Azerbaijan stormed Nagorno Karabakh and “encouraged” the entire ethnic Armenian population of Stepanakert to leave.
Apparently they only care after the victim of a terrorist atrocity shoots back. Presumably they want the Israelis to just shut up and get murdered, like the good old days of the 1940s.

How abouts you start yelling at Hamas to turn over all the hostages. That might get them at least a temporary ceasefire. But of course, this UN expert isn’t that concerned about the hostages.

Two state solution is dead. They’ll fight until one side wins and that’ll most likely be Israel. A ceasefire would just kick the can down the road and cause a future war.
The UN is throwing around the words “ethnic cleansing” too much, and diluting it from its true horrific meaning.
No one is getting cleansed, though at these times i do believe we should round up any and all Hamas/ISIS/Arab SS and cleanse them for real.
