  1. • Mr Sunak is being urged to use the King’s Speech to “shape the political agenda” with potentially only a year to go until the next general election.

    • Senior Tory MPs have thrown their weight behind new proposals from right-wing think tank Policy Exchange on housing, crime and sex education in schools.

    • Sir Simon Clarke, a close ally of former prime minister Liz Truss, endorsed calls for market-based reforms of the energy sector, which Policy Exchange said would improve affordability for customers.

  2. Why not. Let the public see your true colours so they can finally consign the Tories to decades as opposition.

  3. If we get much further right we’ll be burning women at the stake for witchcraft

  4. Because the one thing that people in this country really care about is the culture war, right? It’s not like it’s been drummed up for years and fuck all has come from it except the Tories sounding like nutters and calling everything they don’t like woke,.or anything.

  5. The Tories aren’t offering any solutions. Labour aren’t offering many either. The fact is that the ultra-rich have sucked up so much money and hoarded it in their offshore accounts that everyone is suffering now, but neither party will ever admit that, because that’s communism or something.

So all Labour can offer is ‘tough on crime’ and stuff like that, and all the Tories can offer is ‘we will make life much worse for people who aren’t you’. And then the general public will feel relatively better off than the people the Tories are dehumanising.

The Tory platform is all the negative stuff the Nazis offered without any of the delusional visions of a great future. (Brexit put an end to optimism as a political strategy.)

  6. It’s stupid that they make the monarch read out a list of government plans, like a lavishly dressed sockpuppet. Yeah I get it, His Majesty’s government blah blah, but they haven’t had meaningful power for ~150 years now. Why doesn’t Sunak just give his own speech.

  7. Any further right and those flat earthers are going to fall off the edge.

  8. Goodie! More bright ideas like Brexit, getting rid of nurses and carers and more tax relief for the wealthy!

    Where do I sign..?

  9. He should, if only to make sure that the party he represents are Conservative in something other than just the name. The current “Conservatives” are several degrees to the left of Clement Atlee.

  10. Why is lizz truss making an alternative budget?
Didn’t her last one smack the pound off the floor?

  11. Getting an unelected head of state to set out the program of legislation is so last century.

  12. He’s surely ran out of rhetoric carrots to dangle in front of right wing voters.

I mean imagine that, you’re a Tory prepared to shift further and further right for approval, in a commonly right wing country no less, and you still can’t woo the crowds.

I think that says everything you need to know – people just think he’s shit.

  13. I don’t get it. The article is nothing like the headline. It’s about labour and the conservatives similar plans to alter the planning system.
