The spokesperson for the police force said: “Investigators were able to observe there was a certain type of profile of the traveller who passed through Barcelona with the pretext of continuing his or her journey towards other countries, like Turkey or Ireland, when in reality they were intending to enter Spain fraudulently.”
Does that mean that they were not really heading for Ireland?
So they can’t get a visa for Spain but apparently they must have an Irish visa or visa not required. I highly doubt any have said their final destination is Ireland. What I imagine is the following:
People with African passports who don’t require a transit visa for the Schengen area.
They book a flight to Turkey or some 3rd country with a layover in Barcelona then they “wait” in the airport and then the employees help them enter.
If the final destination was Ireland then the airline won’t let them board without a valid visa. So unless they’re somehow eligible for an Irish visa then it’s just not realistic or possible.
