First, I need to apologize for the third post about the subject today. The previous two simply fail to address the contents of the proposal plus, people simply ignore the content of the news, and stick to the title.
I’ll be focusing on the following text from Reuters which contains far [more detail](https://www.reuters.com/markets/commodities/eu-drafts-plan-label-gas-nuclear-investments-green-2022-01-01/).
> A draft of the Commission’s proposal, seen by Reuters, would label nuclear power plant investments as green if the project has a plan, funds and a site to safely dispose of radioactive waste. To be deemed green, new nuclear plants must receive construction permits before 2045.
>Investments in natural gas power plants would also be deemed green if they produce emissions below 270g of CO2 equivalent per kilowatt hour (kWh), replace a more polluting fossil fuel plant, receive a construction permit by Dec. 31 2030 and plan to switch to low-carbon gases by the end of 2035.
So, contrary to the inicial news, this won’t ever be a blank check for either nuclear or natural gas.
1. Not a single nuclear project today includes provisions and costs for Sage storage, including insuring it. In fact, this is a poisoned gift, as it ensures that not a single private nuclear reactor will ever see the light of day.
2. The current natural gas technology generates 470gCO2 per KWh, far anniversary he 270gCO2 required by the commission, plus, the commitment to swap to hydrogen in the short term. Again, not a single CCGT plant will ever meet those requirements, but with the current technology.
So, please read what’s being proposed before commenting.
