  1. Why is a local council paying to build a hotel for the Premier Inn? Esspecially when it’s cost so much to build it. Why can’t Premier Inn build their own hotels?

It just annoyed me when I heard about it on the news earlier, so I thought I’d see what you all thought about it.

  2. Christ, imagine if Dorset Council did this. They ended up in court over the sale of their own council building which has stood empty for 6yrs with the lights and heating on!

  3. Why the fuck are they doing this!? Me thinks, someone got bribed and their mate is now 14 million pounds richer. Premier Inn is a private company. Torquay could use that 14 million pounds for other things.

  4. This is remarkably normal

    – the council will be building subject to a pre let agreement with the hotel who will take a long lease on completion of the works
    – the value of the building will likely be well in excess of the cost to build it and the value of the land (or at least when it was commissioned)
    – this will likely result in a profit for the council together with a hotel for the town which it will likely benefit from
