  1. > The Chinese jets came within about five metres of the Canadian plane.

I’m no pilot, but yeah, that seems aggressively close.

  2. These articles are always so terrible with details. “Off the coast of China” is 3000 miles. They can’t even be bothered identify the type of Chinese jet.

  3. Well good thing global tensions are down in all regions

  4. Canada should send them a huge shipment of Maple Syrup in hopes of sweetening them up.

“We’re sorry you had to fly so close, ‘eh.”
    ‘Have some syrup on us.”
    Sincerely,
    Canada

  5. Oh sorry eh? Didn’t see you there,eh. Why you coming at me?;Take off hoser.

  6. > The Chinese jet also launched multiple firework-like flares near the Canadian aircraft. These aggressive intercepts took place shortly after the crew lost contact with their base due to an apparent communications glitch with the equipment.

The firing of flares seems like a dick move. Also are they implying the Chinese jammed their comms or just our usual crappy Canadian equipment?

  7. I don’t even know why they try. Everyone, including them knows they can’t stand up to Nato. It’s only going to get worse as time goes on as well, between their population crash and economic crisis.

  8. I wonder if the Canadian jets feelings were hurt?

  9. Glad to see we are helping out with North Korea sanctions monitoring, to bad most of the weapons shipped to Russia are by rail.

  10. Love how canada has both “the nicest country” stereotype and the “most war crimes by far” title for world War 2(allied side)

Edit: Sorry, I meant World War 1.

Ww2, Canada treated PoWs poorly up to and including murder and burned Friesoythe to the ground.

  11. Good on our boys continuing their mission. You gotta have nerve of steel to hold steady.

It’s not even just that Chinese planes were flying close, they shot flares too.

Obviously I worry for the safety of our militarymen but politically speaking, I’m glad we didn’t concede.

  12. It was about 15 years ago a Chinese plane doing this crashed into an American plane. The Chinese pilot died, and the Americans had to make an emergency landing after destroying sensitive gear. They were captured and interrogated for 12 days before being handed over to the US along side their plane which was now in boxes

  13. Well that’s it then…China is officially off the Timmies Christmas time gift card this year.

If they keep going they won’t get the Timmies Valentines Day gift card either.

  14. I am telling ya the Armageddon button will be PUSHED can ‘t believe universalist like me is Doomsayin

  15. Should have shot them down to send a message. They escalate because no one retaliates. And china won’t start a war over 1 asshole pilot

  16. can we get a location general ? cause i still cant understand why the canadian forces would be flying that far away ?

  17. TIL Israel sold China plans for J10 based off a design U.S. funded 90% of, up until that point best fighter China was flying was based off Mig-21. Who needs enemies with allies like ours?

  18. > These aggressive intercepts took place shortly after the crew lost contact with their base due to an apparent communications glitch with the equipment.

    Probing, testing, learning

  19. Having been to China I’d just say that everyone drives in an “aggressive manner”. The Chinese pilot was probably just trying to do a zipper lane merge.
