  1. Well what was the other option? We were just delaying quite so much contact until a vaccine. I can’t think of a better solution when you have a contagious virus.

Just because it was hard, doesn’t mean it was wrong.

  2. “The harms of the social distancing measures – particularly lockdown, the economic harms, the educational harms, the harms to access to healthcare”

Education and healthcare would suffer without lockdowns. More teachers, nurses, doctors etc getting covid means you cant access these services.

  3. >The harms of the social distancing measures – particularly lockdown, the economic harms, the educational harms, the harms to access to healthcare, the harms to societal wellbeing … just the way we all function … mental health – were not included in any of the work that SPI-M-O did and, as far as I could tell, no one else was doing it either,” Woolhouse told the inquiry

I thought that was supposed to be SAGE? They were supposed to consider data from the modelling teams and consider the economic and social impact and make recommendations based on that ?

  4. I think short term the lockdowns were a good shout but they lasted SO LONG even when it was becoming obvious they werent having much of an impact

  5. Lock down care homes at most, everything else was stupid and unnecessary.

  6. It was never rooted in science it was rooted in fears and feelings. It was not just the first time lockdowns had been tried in the western world, it was the first time they had been tried AFTER a virus was already widespread. There’s very little evidence after the fact that they really did save lives or reduce cases, especially seeing as in the UK they came in after cases were already falling. But there is evidence of harm from the massive inflation etc we’re suffering now – we’ll be paying back lockdowns and furlough for years and a poor economy where people struggle to feed themselves is not just about but it means poverty, starvation, illness and death in itself.
