I’m sure the bank balance increase from the meme helped the embrace
Like every time some American tries to tell Ricky Gervais how better their version of The Office is, only for him to tell them how rich it made him.
He wasn’t always happy about it though. Said he was at 1 point hating the fanbase and he felt like ‘a bit of a joke’ in people’s eyes. There’s a good interview from 2015 https://youtu.be/oHg5SJYRHA0?si=H81nFFaIvya5ewSG
Timeless well crafted pop record by the 80s powerhouse of Stock Aitken and Warerman. Decent vocal didn’t harm either.
He liked the 60k people dancing to it at Glastonbury at 10 am on a Sunday….
Quietly?
Hooking yourself up to a speaker system that’s bigger than my home to pump the song out to a crowd of thousands seems like the exact opposite of “quietly”!
Good for him, though. If people enjoy his song whether it’s ironic or not then he’s right to embrace it!

[Someone did the math on how much he earned from the song](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=oBNWX0TXMZm86gvq)
He’s a surprisingly excellent performer, saw him live at a festival this year. Brilliant drummer.
