  1. I was coming out of Galway last night (time is actually 20:25) and had just gone by the exit out to Athenry. I see the lights coming at me and I think “Surely not?” followed by “Oh fuck!” Luckily there was enough space for me to pull in in front of the car I had just overtaken. But it spooked me that I only had 1 second to spare.

    I talked my Garda friend about it and she said it happens more regularly than people think!

  10. Unfortunately the majority of people driving the wrong way are elderly struggling with dimentia

  11. This is exactly why when you reach a certain age you should be made redo your driving test. The amount of slack young people get on the road when the majority of incidents like this are caused by elderly people that are in no condition to be driving any sort of vehicle

    You literally have seconds to realise the headlights are not from opposing lane…
    You did well, how many years are you driving?

  20. 4pm in the afternoon, I once witnessed a car indicate and then begin to drive the wrong way down the off ramp of the M3, so joining the motorway on the wrong side. I beeped like crazy and flashed my lights and gestured like a lunatic. She stopped, lowered her window and proceeded to give me the finger whilst roaring obscenities at me, then carried on down the ramp. Middle aged driver so definitely not senile, drunk maybe?

  25. Exact same thing happened to me on the M11, followed immediately by a car from the other side flipping over the barrier right in front of me. No clue about the other car but the one flying down the wrong side of the motorway turned out to be a confused older driver.

  26. Now the other driver is going to post, “Hey lads I was driving down the motorway last night and there was hundreds of eejits driving the wrong way, what’s going on?”

  27. Happened to me a few times, comes at you so fast and scary as fuck! Another good reason not to sit in the overtaking lane unnecessarily…
