‘Asked whether those admissions were people taken to hospital because of coronavirus, or for other health reasons and “happened to have COVID”, Dr Nagpaul replied: “That’s a very good question and, in fact, that’s data I don’t have and data it is really important is made available, because I absolutely agree, we need to differentiate between the two.”‘
Hoping this is just a sensationalist headline, as hospital admissions are always higher in the winter months anyway as far as I’m aware. With the way omicron is spreading its not surprising a lot of people who go into hospital just have it in their system.

I work in a hospital and around Christmas you sometimes see people avoiding coming in until after the festivities. They try really hard to wait it out at home and then we get a wave of very poorly people after New year’s. Not necessarily from covid of course.
Given how many have Omicron we are going to reach a point where a good chunk of admissions are purely incidental. This needs to be logged as shutting down society for people with broken legs is insane.
I thought all hospitals stopped allowing visitors since 2020?
Bit sensationalist isn’t it, they are not the only hospital doing this, Mid/South Essex trust’s venues are as well and I am sure others will be.
Also it is not a total ban.. certain situations there are exceptions (i.e. end of life care patients or those with SEND/learning disabilities etc)
Don’t worry, England will bring in restrictions in January, the busiest month for socialising.
