Russian President Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán have emphasized the good relations between the two countries in China.
Putin said maintaining contact with other countries is difficult due to “the current political conditions.” “We can only be satisfied with relations with many European countries. One of these countries is Hungary.”
Orbán, in turn, said that EU country Hungary has never wanted to face Russia, but rather wants a closer relationship. The Hungarian Prime Minister has also spoken out again against the sanctions imposed on Russia. According to Chinese state media, there has also been talk about the supply of gas, oil and nuclear energy.
Putin and Orbán are in China for a conference on the New Silk Road, a global infrastructure project.

Hungarians are still bitter over loss of their Austro-Hungarian Empire, where they played 2nd fiddle in 2-men orchestra. Get over it. It’s not 1884 again.
The problem is that he can carry on like this and is getting a lot of support at home (at least from the older soviet-era population) as, economically, he is obtaining the best of both worlds for the population – ie unlimited European trade, huge EU cash benefits as well as Russian trade and cheap energy etc.
The EU and NATO need to toughen up and create some clear stated repercussions for Hungary from his pro-Putin position. If Hungarians knew that their EU/NATO relationships/benefits were in serious jeopardy, his support at home would rapidly evaporate. The EU and NATO need to toughen up and stop pussy-footing around Hungary. Hungary would be no great loss to either organisation – in fact the EU would save $billions pa without Hungary in its bloc. Hungary are a NET beneficiary/detractor of EU funds to the tune of $4bn pa, yet despite these huge benefits, are doing everything they can to damage the bloc. What other organisation would allow that to continue?
Basically it’s like having a business partner who brings in very little to the company, takes a huge salary and treats you like shit!
