The Ukrainian forces used long-range ATACMS missiles for the strikes on two airbases in the occupied cities of Berdiansk and Luhansk on the night of 16-17 October.

Source: The Wall Street Journal and Politico with reference to “informed sources”, as reported by European Pravda

According to WSJ, during the last few days the US have secretly sent “a small number of missiles” to Ukraine. The sources do not disclose other details, but it was specified that the modification of the ATACMS received by Ukraine has a range of about 160 km.

Earlier on 17 October, the Special Operation Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike on the airbases in the temporarily occupied cities of Berdiansk and Luhansk, which caused the destruction of nine Russian helicopters with different modifications, an air defence launcher and an ammunition storage.

For months Ukraine has been asking the US to provide it with long-range armament in order to strike the targets of the Russians in their rear but Washington refused due to concerns about escalation from Russia’s side and deficit of such missiles for the American military.

The UK and France however provided Kyiv with their own Storm Shadow/SCALP long-range missiles back in the summer, which the Ukrainian forces were efficiently using on the temporarily occupied territories, mainly in Crimea.

  2. Good, but it would have been better if we provided these over a year ago.

I apologize to the brave defenders and people of Ukraine for my government’s hesitancy.

    God be with you.

  3. Awesome, another bad day for Russian helicopters. 30 year old atacms putting in work

  4. I just love the propaganda in this war.

    We need em.

    *crying* they won’t give them

*crying a river* we are dying without them

*despair* they will never give them

*elated* we blew stuff up with them

  5. Secretly??

Months ago, the USA said, “We are moving toward supplying Ukraine with ATACMS.”

Then they said, “We have decided to give ATACMS to Ukraine.”

Then after that, “Okay we are doing it.”

Now what shows up on the receiving end of Ukrainian missile strikes? ATACMS! Mirabile dictu. Such a secret!

  6. Label: samples only. Not for resale.

Use immediately after opening for freshness and destruction.

  7. Hopefully we’ll see some more footage tomorrow of the next strike

  8. The US keeps pussyfooting with weapons. Why does Europe need to be the first to supply tanks? Why do they need to be the first to supply long range missiles?

  9. The headline is so strange. People do understand that usually the military doesn’t issue a press release before doing something, right? Telling the Russians that the Ukrainians are about to get XYZ weapon capability is militarily a dumb move. Are we so used to living in a 24/7/365 sea of information that we’ve forgotten that maybe some things should be kept secret?

  10. TIL the ATACMS missile will gladly eat Alligators, given the opportunity in the wild
