  1. From the article:

    > Combative right-wing Republican Jim Jordan appeared to be falling short in his bid to serve as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, one of the most powerful posts in Washington, as voting continued on Tuesday.

    > With voting underway, at least nine Republicans had cast ballots against his bid, likely leaving him short of the 217 votes he would need to win the job. More rounds of voting are expected if he does not prevail on the first vote.

    > If he prevails, the Ohio lawmaker who has spent years fighting with leaders of his own party could end up in a position that puts him second in line for the presidency.

  2. Take it from Kevin McCarthy: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try again.

  3. How could House Democrats do this to our country!??

  4. I have a feeling getting a new speaker will be dragged out through a government shut down.

  5. Here’s what I don’t get, besides his colleagues not bringing up the whole enabling sexual abuse scandal, why is no one talking about the conflict of interest here?

This guy has been abusing his power while overseeing a congressional inquisition against Joe Biden and his family with the goal in mind of organizing a scheme to draft up articles of impeachment, however unjust or unwarranted it may be.

The speaker of the house is 2nd in line for the presidency… What’s going to happen with Jordan’s role as ring leader of this impeachment circus if he becomes speaker?

  6. Jordan has to make a lot more deals if he wants to become speaker. Just like McCarthy had to make deals.

At this point I won’t be surprised if moderate republicans start voting for Jefferies. It would be a death sentence for any of them that do but it still won’t be a surprise.

  7. If they act like losers even when they are winners, what’s the point in electing them?

  8. This is happening because shame and embarrassment are no longer qualities of being conservative. Like a child who doesn’t understand why they’re told not to pick their nose.

  9. Will the conservative machine threaten the holdouts even harder?

  10. This traitor should be nowhere near the leadership role, he should be in jail for his part in the Jan 6th insurrection

  11. “He is a patriot, an America First warrior who wins the toughest of fights,” Republican Representative Elise Stefanik said as she nominated Jordan for speaker on the House floor.

How do you say 3 things in one sentence and have all of them be 100% wrong or a flat out lie?

  12. Hey Republicans, you are absolute clowns and an embarrassment to the world.

  13. This was expected.

The next step is to turn against the Republicans that voted against him and threaten to primary them.

  14. The Republicans (GOP) have been playing with fire, kowtowing to Trump and the MAGA extreme wing of their party, and now their party is getting burned.

They have no one to blame but themselves. The Republican Party is putting our national security at risk.

  15. Why are we even considering such idiots as Jordan and Trump?

Federal elective office should have a qualifying exam –like series 7 and such for finance. Without passing, one shouldn’t be allowed to hold the office.

  16. No surprise really. No one wants Jim Jordan. And as an Ohioan, I can say that. At best he’s a lying traitor to the US. At worst, he actively covered up sexual abuse.

  17. Liz Cheney is the only sane answer for the Republican side, otherwise it needs to just fall to Jefferies….but it won’t.

  18. Let’s hope it continues to fail. This rape enabling, J6 subpoena dodging, gerrymandered representative doesn’t deserve to even be in congress. Never mind lead it

  19. Republicans will fall in line. It might take a bit, but they will, and nut job molester enabler Jordan will be speaker. Interestingly, he won’t be the most morally reprehensible House speaker in history. That mantle belongs to ANOTHER Republican.

  20. Steve Scalise honorably removed himself from the Speaker race after failing on the first vote. THERE IS NO HONOR IN GYM JORDAN!

  21. Maybe he should offer free hernia checks all November….

  22. Fun fact about how screwed Republicans are on this. They have to vote for Jordan or throw their vote away. If 5 of them vote “present”, Hakeem Jeffries becomes Speaker. So, they have to either do a joke/unserious clown vote or vote for the guy who covered up 177 rapes which will likely cost them their re-election campaigns in a few months.

  23. If Jordan is elected speaker this will be the blackest day of days for the Republican party. It is hard to find someone as disreputable as Trump in the Republican party but Jordan is certainly his peer.

That 200 Republican Congressman voted for him speaks the the pure lack of ethics and morals of these Republicans.

  24. Republicans are shameful shit stain fascists willing to do anything to hold power. The fact that this incompetent gerrymandered fuck is even in any position to take this job is a tragic pathetic
    embarrassment .

  25. One can only hope he continues to fail, for the sake of our country

  26. Thank God.

Note everyone who votes for this rape enabler

  27. Good. Fuck that traitor. Shouldn’t even be in congress, let alone elected to be third in line from the presidency.

  28. I just wrote my representative John Curtis to tell him that he’s a complete disgrace for voting for Jim Jordan and that his political career should never recover after this vote.

  29. Thank god. Gym jordan is such a big piece of shit that even John Boehner called him a legislative terrorist.

  30. If Republicans were smart, which apparently they aren’t, they would nominate a moderate that can reach across the aisle when necessary but not be too far right as to alienate all the rest of their caucus, they could get this done and move on, but they won’t, and Jordan will not be Speaker. And we’ll still be here, tomorrow, wondering what they’re gonna do.

  31. I hate that the future of our democracy rest on the shoulders of a few Republican members of the House, and their ability to stand up and show courage in the face of Jim Jordan, Fox, Trump, and the Maga base. I’m not a praying man, but I’m praying for them.

Granted, some of them are probably doing in for self-serving reasons, as they’re from districts that Biden won, but they also know what happens to people like Kinzinger and Cheney. It’s not easy to stand up to fascism.

Anyway, I’m going back to watching the levies, and hoping they hold.

  32. How can a guy who hasn’t successfully sponsored or passed any bills be responsible for the house?
