Seen in Siġġiewi near the town centre. No further explanation. Of course parking within the lines is ignored. I was reversing into the parking spot and the guy who was leaving his car next to me told me to park with the front facing the footpath. He said something about the exhaust fumes but that’s it. I don’t get it.

  1. Don’t reverse into the parking bay, front towards the sidewalk

  2. This sign is usually found in residential areas with small pavement areas and vertical parking.

The sign is asking you to not reverse into the spot.

    This is done to:
    1. Not damage the residential walls and doors with fumes.
    2. Not cover people walking on the sidewalk, or the residents with their doors open, with your exhaust when you’re parking or leaving.

  3. it is to avoid direct fumes from houses and people walking on the pavement

  4. I don’t know the exact reason but assume it’s due to car exhausts pointing towards the walls which could discolour the walls.

  5. Pavement = sidewalk/footpath in this context. The sign is asking you to park with the “nose in”, rather than reversing into the spot.

  6. its a sign telling you to park incorrectly. Unfortunately you have to do so or you get fined.

  7. Which part is confusing?
    Front bumper or pavement?

  8. So you just made a post complaining how bad driving is in Malta then you struggle to read simple English on a roadsign?

  9. Have anyone of you saying “it’s obvious what the sign means” though that maybe the question is why, and not what does it say? A complete stranger would never know why, somebody who was never on the island or is visiting for the first time. How some of you have a right to vote is beyond me. Morons.
