Monday saw the arrival at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel of the 2nd of two Airbus C295 Maritime Patrol Aircrafts. Total cost of €230 million. They are equipped for maritime surveillance, particularly fisheries protection. Well done to the Civil-Military team who made it happen!

Shame there aren’t enough techs to keep them running.
Shure spend another 250m on it. It’s only taxpayer money. Gotta protect those fish by…. using them to see boats…..and then calling the other ships….. to attack them? For fishing? Probably.
Is one of these aircraft going to be used to repatriate Irish people in future circumstances?
We were supposed to get 9 these over a decade ago.
These are replacement aircraft. They are incorrectly described as MPA. It’s DoD just making their own definition to obscure the fact that these are surveillance aircraft not ASW patrol aircraft. Because we still operate out of the mindset on the 1921 Treaty that Britain takes charge of naval Defence.
EDIT: Downvote away FFG. The above are all facts.

A short video of the exact aircraft being delivered
Where are the bombs????
Micheal Martin eyeing it up for trips to Brussels.
It will be in the new year before they will be on fisheries patrol . And not enough space in the hanger
> particularly fisheries protection
Who’s going to do the enforcement if they do spot something? The Navy is gutted, Can barely crew two ships. Maybe we’ll just drop a note from the airplane asking them to kindly leave.
Beautiful planes, don’t get me wrong, perfect for coastal patrols etc. and a bit of troop/cargo transport
But we’re rich enough to have at least one A400M for proper military transport operations.
It’s embarrassing we’re still bumming lifts off other countries.
Drones. We need armed drones, unarmed drones, big drones, little drones, kamikaze drones and micro drones. We can build them ourselves very easily and they would be very cheap. Build a drone armada. Secure our island.
I love the Aer Corps tricolour insignia.
Honestly it was needed and €230m wasn’t bad value for such capable aircraft. Next we need to upgrade the fleet with interceptor aircraft as the PC-9’s are very limited
