  1. Narrator: it would be easier to discuss what *didn’t* go wrong with Britain’s housing. Nothing. Nothing went right.

  2. We sold off lots of social housing and didn’t build much more.

I think is the crux of it.

  3. The idea that rising house prices is ever a good thing just boggles my mind.

And even now, the house market will be described as “recovering” or “booming” when the prices are on the rise. It will be described as “collapsing” or “stagnating” when the prices stop rising as fast.

    This is insane.

  4. Are you fucking kidding me?! What went wrong?! Thatcher in her uniquely vile wisdom thought it a good idea to turn the homes of the common folk into a freemarket example of how to completely fuck up a real, tangible symbol of how the British did things, here providing homes for everyone who needs one. It was never perfect, the council housing system, but it was what the people in the system could afford. Thatchers idea was to give people who had no assets, the chance to own their house…and in short order sell it on. To the own to rent bastards who fucked it for what it was worth and are now moaning along with this lot above ‘oh how could this have happened?’…your economic dream was a fucking nightmare for everyone but you, and you fucked it. You did. What a fucking insulting question.
