My dear German friends, I once again ask you for help translating. This eldrich text was given to me by my father before his untimely demise (he went to get milk)

1. “Eldritch” is not a word I use to describe this. It’s the legend for a map of hiking trails. You can see the scale about halfway down (1:25000), and below that a key for certain features on the map:

   * State border
   * District border
   * Boulevard
   * Road
   * Footpath
   * Tourist trail

   “RGV” would be the initials of the local club that installed the map. You can see parts of the map itself where your father rubbed beyond the legend (which must have been in the bottom left corner of the map).

   R . G . V (V Must be for Verein =Club…)

   Görtelsdorf-Grüssau (possibly now poland)

   Gifted by xxx (name)Scale 1:25000

   Explanations:

   Country border

   Communal border

   Chaussee

   Street

   Foot path

   Tourist path

   ——-

   That means it is a key to a street map in this town, that’s pissibly now Poland

   RGV
   might be the „Riesengebirgsverein“ https://www.riesengebirgsverein.de/ ) that’s a club that marks hiking paths around eastern Germany, possibly 80 years ago already

   Edit: it’s called Gorzeszów today

3. And in case you wonder why it looks that way: it was made by pressing a piece of paper on the embossed “orientation plate” of this village (which may have meant a lot to him, I’d assume that’s where he lived), and then using a pencil to “copy” the embossed letters to the paper.
