Ukrainian AI attack drones may be killing without human oversight. Ukrainian attack drones equipped with artificial intelligence are now finding and attacking targets without human assistance, New Scientist has learned, in what would be the first confirmed use of autonomous weapons. Behind Paywall

Another link that is not behind the paywall.

I mean…what could go wrong?
If there’s a place to do it, its this conflict, where there is static lines of trenches and fronts in cardinal directions (“enemy in front, good guys behind). I mean, at least this phase of the conflict.
You could probably program them to home in on vodka breath IR plumes haha
The enemy will surely find a way to chat with them.
Wasn’t there some use in North Africa a few years ago?
The decision to kill or not to kill should always be made by another human. This is not a decision that AI should be allowed to make
All they need now is a mothership.
First *widespread* use perhaps. The UN reported the Kargu-2 did this in Libya years ago.
Assuming this is accurately reported, I’d like to say to everyone who has been emphasizing EW etc.; as predicted COTS drones will increasingly give way to increasingly autonomous systems and the EW can’t stop a system using thermals or visual band to ID and target enemy vehicles, as the Brimstone has been capable of doing for ~20 years.
Solar power autonomous border patrol drones are the future. Step over the border without a passport and see what happens. Whump.
I for one welcome my new Ukrainian robot masters.
I suppose it was inevitable, but it is still more than mildly horrifying. I’m glad I’ll be dead in 20 years.
Maybe… what kind of statement is that. They may also be controlled by aliens, right?
I feel war should be defined to just weapons being controlled by a human. Soon it’ll just be an entire battle bots episode. That would be so dumb
Wow. Can’t wait to be terrorized in the future by random maniacs releasing kill drones in populated areas.
