Yorkshire should be allowed to ‘take more control of its own decisions’ says Sir Keir Starmer

  1. If only there was some sort of Mayoral Combined Authority that hadn’t been limited in its range by fear from all parties about the power of a single Yorkshire.

  2. At this stage I wouldn’t care if the north was a kingdom of York and told Westminster to fuck right off. I mean it doesn’t even have to be a kingdom just completely separate from the South.

  3. Surely didn’t help the past year when they decided to merge some of the councils together and remove the local offerings. The Unitary councils seem recipes for disaster and much more chance of things not being done for the local area.

  4. The Lib Dems have the right idea by supporting a Federal UK – with full regional devolution.

The English regions should have the same level of local democracy as the other three Nations of the UK.

  5. Lets go.

Take Yorkshire Tea into state ownership and subsidise it via taxes levied on Pret a Manger, Jack Wills and other southern shite.

Make ‘bitter’ a protected name of deisgnated origin which can only be applied to brands produced in Yorks, Lancs and Lincs, cos it’s shite elsewhere.

Remove all sports funding from Rugby Union. It’s sports entertainment in the same way WWE is in wrestling. There’s only room for one sport like that in Gods County.

Remove all VAT on Yorkshire puddings, flat caps and, for those in the east, chip spice.

Censor the BBC, like what happened to Gerry Adams. Anyone with an unsavoury, posh southern accent is to be dubbed over by a select group of broadcasters including but not limited to: Sean Bean, Darren Gough, Brian Blessed, Sheriden Smith, Paul Chuckle, Mel B, Geoffrey Boycott, and Kammy.

  6. A federal model is the way to go, England has simply too large and diverse a population for a single parliament to manage effectively – so a single English Parliament isn’t the answer. Divide it into the nine regions, given them a devolved parliament, strengthen the devolved parliaments to a federal level and make Westminster an actual federal government.

  7. He will have just angered Cornwall over this. He’ll have the Cornish independence movement banging down his door any day now, demanding their right to govern themselves, free from Westminster interference.

  8. He didn’t actually say what he meant by that though, so it looks like a Johnsonite vague promise of jam tomorrow that he has no real intention of following up.

  9. Hate regionalism, so it’s a Nah fam. Makes less sense than nationalism and nationalism doesn’t make any.

  10. I am hearby founding the Yorkshire Independence Political Party for the Extraction from England.

    YIPPEE for short.
