If I’m reading this correctly, to get around the 20 or so Republican holdouts that are preventing a majority vote to elect an actual Speaker, their plan is to expand the powers of the Speaker pro tempore, currently Patrick McHenry
and that….requires them to vote on granting McHenry the expanded powers, meaning they need a majority of Republicans to vote on it…
Their “plan” is what others notionally call insanity – doing the same thing over and over, expecting different result

There is a little matter of the constitution saying that the house has to choose a speaker. Not sure just handing it to McHenry is entirely legal. I’m going to assume the Dems will challenge that in court.

Next time the Dems have the house they need to change the voting rules to something like after 10 rounds of voting the person with the greatest vote count wins despite not reaching the majority threshold.
