  1. I got ripped apart for saying this in the world news sub.

    He’s right. He’s absolutely right.

edit: For context, I was commenting that Israel should try to avoid the mistakes the US made of leaning heavily into the WITH US 100% OR AGAINST US 100% crap that the US did after 9/11, which only served to silence debate around what was being done. This led to the US taking actions that should have been discussed much more than they were and ultimately came to be seen as huge mistakes. I was not just saying “Joe Biden was right”

  2. >”After 9/11 we were enraged in the United States. While we sought justice and got justice, we also made mistakes.”

Like spending a trillion dollars to fight the longest war in the country’s history with absolutely nothing to show for it?

Edit: this wasn’t a gotcha comment. More just reinforcing what he’s saying. It was a colossal waste that still pains me when I think of what we could have done with those resources. That’s all.

Since I’m being downvoted anyway: I protested the start of that war at that time. It was very unpopular to *not* support invading Iraq and Afghanistan. You were basically not a true American. It’s so obvious now what a mistake that was, but everyone was just so angry after 9/11 that they couldn’t see past their own bloodthirsty desire for revenge. Anyway, Joe is right.

  3. two decades long wars whos’ only purpose seemed to be to enrich defense companies? Yeah that was a big fuckin’ mistake

  4. I said this to friends at dinner when it happened, they are doing exactly what the US did and it’s absolutely terrible, the cycles just never end. You would think it’s 2024 and we are doing what has been done for all of this world’s existence

  5. Too late. War crimes are being committed on the regular already.

  6. Thank you, mature adult leader. I appreciate your composure and restraint.

  7. War is the path to peace is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

  8. I think one major difference with the events happening in Israel and Palestine right now is that our media has gotten out of control. Fast and loose with the facts. For nearly a decade we’ve heard these “fake news” proclamations from those targeted by various news stories and throughout that I’ve seen what I feel is the largest degradation to quality and integrity of news reporting in my lifetime.

The point I am making here is that we depend on the news media to accurately report the facts to us. The problem is we have a bunch of organizations that got fast and loose on what “facts” are and with respect to Israel and Palestine we see people making judgements on who they feel is right and wrong based on…. “facts”.

Freedom of the Press is a very important aspect of American Democracy, but the fringe are taking that freedom to act in the capacity of “news” but in reality they are not “news” at all. Fox “News” argued in COURT that they are not a news organization and that their reporting should be considered opinion.

I want Fox to have their ability to report their OPINIONS, but they shouldn’t be allowed to report them as fact.

So with Biden’s warning today my concern is that public perception of this war will be driven entirely by our media. We’ve already seen a number of instances, most recently the hospital bombing that turns out was an inside job (currently corroborated by the US intelligence and Israel). This goes to show just how important reforms will be when it comes to reporting news. News should be based entirely in fact, not in opinions or conjecture. You can still share opinions and conjecture, hell you can even do so without any facts supporting your position. But we desperately need to re-think what we consider “news” and how “news” should be reported.

  9. This is the precise message. It’s not like 9/11 was good. But our response was fucking unhinged. We still have FISA courts handing out warrants like Pez candy.

  10. I have seen so many goddamn people post shit without checking the sources at all. It is fucking embarrassing that is 2023 and we are still making mistakes we should have left in the 90’s. Do not fucking accept any information from any source without actually double checking, doing your homework and thinking critically.

  11. Dude Israel declared war and started bombing within 5 minutes, I think its a little late for that advice..

  12. Say what you want about Biden, he’s been on par with Obamas level headedness and grounded opinions about domestic and world events. Seems like a good dude. Too bad he’s so old.

  13. Yeah one of my big concerns is we end up seeing 2 million people genocided because <1% of them are terrorists. So many people just happened to be born into this horrible situation.

  14. WOW. I didn’t expect to see this kind of acknowledgment from the US government in my lifetime, let alone from a president only 22 years later

  15. Thank God someone finally said it. If Israel occupies Gaza it will be even worse than Iraq.

  16. “yOu DoN’t SuPpOrT tHe TrOoPs!!”// s

i remember 20 years ago people have long term memory loss though

  17. Wow, this is an incredible official statement of recognition of post 9/11 us baloney.

  18. Don’t worry, they won’t. I’m pretty confident that Israel won’t invade the wrong country.

  19. Honestly I struggle to imagine how Israel could possibly fuck up like the US did. “Don’t be consumed by hatred” is good and all, but the US did wayyy more than that. I don’t see Israel traveling across the globe and staying for 20 years for this conflict, and I also can’t see them invading Iraq for reasons.

  20. “Guys don’t go invade Iraq under the false premise of them having nuclear weapons!!1!”

  21. Especially don’t invade a random unrelated country. Bad move.

  22. Has Israel asked for additional aid from the U.S. or is it really needed? I’m just wondering why U.S. tax payers are footing the bill for an a large upcoming aid package when Israel isn’t in dire straights economically like Ukraine.

    Thoughts?

  23. Saying this is great and all, but if (when) they don’t follow this advice, will Joe actually do anything about it? Or will we just get more passive voice “lives lost” concern trolling?

  24. Yeah.

Like…putting all your money and wiping out a budget surplus. You know….when you have more money than debt?

What else? Oh right! Human rights violations!

    Solid advice.

    10/10 will recommend.

  25. imagine saying that to the people you’re funding to make those mistakes 🤦‍♂️ o wait

  26. I was hoping for something a little better. “We wanted justice, we got justice, but we also made mistakes” is a pretty pathetic understatement of invading the wrong country, committing unspeakable war crimes, and plunging the entire middle east into chaos.

  27. I hope the people cleaning up the debris are properly protected from asbestos and other carcinogens

  28. But in the end we’ll continue funding Israel’s siege, and most Americans are asking for blood. In 10 years all these same people will look back and act like they were level-headed and against the conflict.

  29. He mentioned “mistakes” that cost the US troops and money, not apologized for the hundreds of thousands of civilians that have died as a result or for torture in the black sites, or for ultimately leaving the people of Afghanistan back with the Taliban. US as a country got off relatively easy, George Bush and Dick Cheney didn’t see a day in court, and that’s Biden’s underlying message.

  30. Except Israel knows exactly who murdered over 1,000 of their citizens unlike the US at the time. Big difference Joe. Hamas needs to be wiped off the map.
