Jim Jordan is on track to lose a second ballot to secure the House Speakership, with over a dozen Republicans (and counting) voting against him on Wednesday. Jordan can only afford to lose four caucus members if he wants to win the gavel.
House Republicans appear wholly incapable of bringing forth a resolution to the leadership crisis that has brought Congress to a standstill since the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy earlier this month. The House only has 30 days left to resolve the budgetary disputes amongst the GOP that brought the government to the verge of a shutdown in late September and has remained unable to address the ongoing military and humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
Supporters for Jordan have leveled an intense pressure campaign against the 20 Republicans who refused to back the Ohio representative in Tuesday’s vote. Politico reported that the wife of Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) even received a series of anonymous text messages threatening her husband’s political career if he did not “step up and be a leader and help the Republican Party.”
“Your husband will not hold any political office ever again,” one text message read.
If this guy somehow pulls off becoming Speaker, they better wrap Kamala in bubble wrap.

1. never passed a single law in House for 16 years
2. Letting his students molested by his pedophile boss
3 tried to overturn the election

The good news is that three Republicans who voted for him yesterday have voted against him today, while only one who voted against yesterday voted for today.
So he is on pace to have a worse result today than he did yesterday.

And I’m not sure that rejecting someone who has pushed his party to overthrow the government, is a Trump loyalist, advocates for government shutdowns, has zero legislative success, and protects sexual abusers is indicative of such a spine…. but it’s a start.

Guy thinks he can drum up support like McCarthy which totally ignores the fact that he is a disgusting human being and not worthy of a seat in the house, never mind the speaker gavel. If they elect him they will lose more voters in the next election and it looks like a number of them realize that.
The lesson learned from McCarthy was that if you keep holding votes, eventually people will give in.
Still can’t wrap my head around the right clasping on to an ideology that brings them loss after loss. 2018, 2020, 2022. Sure they got the house in 2022, but it was an embarrassing win, and 2024 looks grim for them. If the democrats win the presidency, senate and house in 2024 hopefully it pushes the R’s back to the middle.
Wonder if he can beat McCarthy’s records. Both how many votes it took for him to win and how short he lasted.
Hopefully he doesn’t break either because someone else less rape-y and traitor-y gets it instead.
Good, fuck him. I hope he keeps getting humiliated. I hope his (in)actions that perpetuated sexual violence against athletes at Ohio State haunts his every waking moment. His candidacy is an affront to survivors of sexual abuse (myself among that group). He should be shamed and expelled for abetting sexual abuse, not elevated, celebrated and empowered for doing literally nothing since he was elected to Congress (after doing nothing to help his athletes at Ohio State). He *does* nothing despite claiming to be a man of actiom. And he should *be* nothing in the halls of power of this country.
