Hello all,
I just received a letter from the Finanzamt requesting around 86€ for something called Solidaritätszuschlag 2022. Before I had received a letter stating that they would pay me around 185€ from my tax returns.
What made them change their mind and charge me instead of paying my tax returns?
Is that normal?
I was not notified in Elster about this charge so Im very clueless.
I also received the letter while I was on vacation and I read that there is a 50€ fine for delay in the payment. Is there a way I can avoid this?
Thank you in advance.
Edit: forgot to mention that I am not self employed
Edit2: this is what I received: https://imgur.com/a/cIssQxH

Without detailed informations from you it’s impossible to answer that. There should also be more information on the letter on why and how they calculated that amount.
Well you should hurry and pay the bill because it’ll only get more expensive from here on (I think you could also „Widerspruch einlegen“ idk what it’s called in English, (because the „Widerspruch“ has „aufschiebende Wirkung“)
Have you received a “Bescheid über Einkommensteuer und Solidaritätszuschlag 2022”?
That thing is basically the entire computation of your tax and therefore it probably tells you why you have to pay those 86€
Just compare this Bescheid to your tax return and you will see at which point the Finanzamt differes from your return.
If you think that the Finanzamt has made a mistake within the Bescheid you have one month after you received the Bescheid to send them a written explanation of that mistake.
Mahngebühren/Säumniszuschläge are only charged when you miss a payment deadline so you can easily avoid those charges by paying in time.
