Let’s say there are 40 Republicans that actually oppose Jordan (I don’t know the number so I just made one up.

Path A is the one they’re taking. 20 vote against Jordan in the first bid. Then 24 in the second, maybe 30 in the third, etc. Growing opposition.

Path B would just be 40 votes against in the first vote.

Wouldn’t Path B send a stronger message that Jordan doesn’t have the votes and that the gap is wide enough that he’s never going to get them? And wouldn’t it do so in a single vote instead of dragging this out for several days? It seems like the option they chose makes this a bigger public debacle than it needed to be.
