So if a cyclist unreasonably runs a red light, and a driver reasonably proceeds through a green light, the driver is 20% responsible if the cyclist gets hit.
Lordy.
This is a load of bollox, if you run a red light on a bike you suffer the consequences.
So does that imply, if the driver is considered 20% liable for the damages.
And the settlement is 190k
That the overall damages would be considered 950k?
Sets a dangerous precedent
Well, isn’t that lovely… One breaks the law, the other one is somewhat at fault?
F*** around – find out.
So you get awarded for… Being stupid?
Who is representing the cyclist? Did he sue the driver independently? The balls on this guy.
Also, insurance gets a bad rap, but remember this is why your premium goes up. There isn’t a smokey filled room with insurance CEOs, price fixing and gouging.
It’s the courts and legal professionals.
For politicians, it’s far easier to blame insurers than your family members and party connections who are barrister or judges.
I’ve an Escooter , there’s traffic lights near me. Might go for a spin in the rain and darkness and accept, let’s say, 75% of the blame. Maybe the judge will congratulate me too. Why work when you can break red lights and crash into taxis.
**This is the best news ever – hear me out!!!**
If you’re short a few quid – rent out a bike if you don’t have one.
Wait at some red light – but not for too long, or you’ll miss your opportunity. Give it a few seconds and cycle into a busy junction.
Extra bonus if you get hit bit a few cars running that green light. How dare they proceed at a green light anyway ffs 😉
*Who wants to be a millionaire, 1 in a few million chance to win the lotto. Are you stupid?*
Get a bike and earn some millions. If you’re really lucky – you’ll have a few mill and won’t have to drive to work in the pissing rain as well 🙂
Oh what a lovely ragebait.
I watched a deliveroo cyclist attempt to go through a red light tonight, traffic was stopped and he zoomed up along the inside between cars and footpath … he stopped when the fucking TRAIN pulled out in front of him …. and BOY did he stop. In the rain. Almost went under the train as it nosed out onto the road. Absolutely no clue it was happening
Green doesn’t mean go. It means go if safe to do so. There will always be unexpected things on the road where you would need to be prepared to stop. If it was a child that ran onto the road and got injured people would say the driver was going to fast and was able to stop. They driver does have a duty of care to look. Similarly I say to my kids a green light walking across the road is again not go but proceed if it is safe to do so. It no good thinking you are right but being dead if crossing the road.
I know what I’ll be doing this weekend then
You know nothing of our legal system. Moaning Michael.
The insurance pays. That’s what it’s there for. I’m not overly sympathetic to taxi drivers either. Around here they tend to drive like entitled assholes. Indicators are for lesser people, not the elite of the taxi driving class. That and any lane they feel like swerving into at any given time, regardless of who ever is on the road.
