“Treat all firearms as real and loaded until proven otherwise” – even if they are pink and blue and full of water.
‘Boy with suspended gun’ doesn’t have the same ring to it I guess.
>One of the toys was blue and white, and one was pink and white, it reported.
>”A police van rammed Child X off his bicycle, knocking him to the ground. He was surrounded by armed police officers who pointed their firearms at him.”
🤦
Armed coppers are well known for being literal maniacs in the UK.
I know a firefighter who works with them and he tells me on almost any call with armed officers they WILL WITHOUT A DOUBT break some rules. It’s common for them to beat a suspect a lot more than they need to during the initial “controlling/handcuffing/scuffle” apparently. He even told me a story about some guy who was kneeling on the suspects balls until they were black. Suspect did steal a car and then proceed to joyride it through residential estates at over 80 mph, so he deserves some punishment, can kinda see where they are coming from.
So yeah really not surprised at this at all.
Fucking hilarious that the police have the resources to do this but not go look for my stolen fucking 10 grand of tools though.
Fucking shit hole of a country.
Police are taught to treat anything that might be a gun as if it were a live, loaded weapon, until it is proved to be otherwise.
Whilst this turned out to be a colourful waterpistol, there have been plenty of occasions where legitimate firearms have been painted to resemble children’s toys, solely in order to reduce suspicion.
A 13 year old could look their age or younger, in which case a police officer may lean more into the toy or waterpistol idea. But at the same time, a 13 year old could have the appearance of someone older, in their mid to late teens. There are plenty of 17 year olds running about with legitimate firearms, shooting one another on a daily basis. If I saw someone that looked like a young adult or older teen, carrying what appeared to be a colourful pistol, I would treat it as real. The other option would be to treat it as a toy, and potentially risk either myself or someone else being shot with a disguised pistol.
Funny how there’s no image of the water pistol included in the article. It quite obviously wasn’t a run of the mill super soaker looking thing to warrant an officer reporting it, Police identifying the boy, the ‘weapon’, and then also taking action to secure it.
Stating the colour of the water pistol is also irrelevant.
Pointless fear baiting article.
They’re going to kill someone one day with this stupidity
What colour was the child, and did the “pistol” even vaguely resemble a real gun?
