  1. * “President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev will take the post of head of the country’s Security Council. Tokayev said this in his address to citizens, Orda.kz reports.
Until now, the Security Council was headed by former President Nursultan Nazarbayev.”

Clarification: Nazarbayev was the first president of Kazakhstan and ruled as President for about 30 years. He left the presidency and created a position for himself, “the head of Security Council,” which still holds a lot of power and influence.

This is a soft coup from the new President, as he removes Nazarbayev and his elites from powers. Supposedly, this should be good for Kazakhstan, as Nazarbayev was and is notoriously corrupt to this day.
