I’m just here to see a whole bunch of people complain about who hosts Jeopardy.
She was on a satirical pop culture comedy show, where the actors commonly portray people as caricatures for comedy – both in looks and in personality.
>Caricature:
>
>Noun: a picture, description, or imitation of a person in which certain striking characteristics are exaggerated in order to create a comic or grotesque effect.
>
>Verb: make or give a comically or grotesquely exaggerated representation of (someone or something).
If you feel bad about this, then SNL was probably not the right spot for you.
It was wrong for Melanie Hutsell to be on SNL in the first place.
>“The actress portraying me was dancing and mugging for the camera and she was hilarious. But. She wore a prosthetic nose. In order to truly convey that she was ‘Blossom,’ she wore a fake, big nose,” Bialik wrote. “I don’t know if it was significantly larger than my real nose and I don’t care to remember. I remember that it struck me as odd. And it confused me.”
>Hutsell recalled apologizing to Bialik in person for the “SNL” sketch a decade later.
>“The whole situation haunted me for years, but thankfully I had an opportunity at an audition about ten years after the fact to look Mayim in the eye and apologize for what I did, to which she responded, ‘I release you!’ I took that to mean that she accepted my apology and that meant more to me than she will ever know,”
I know the headline gets the clicks. But I think this should be the main take away from that article.
She…had a big nose. Growing up I didn’t know she was Jewish, but I knew she had a big effing nose. Peyton Manning has a gigantic forehead and people constantly bust his balls over that. Do I need to find out what Manning’s nationality is before I key in on his runway-sized forehead, or is it just okay because he’s a man?
Someone go check up on r/bignoseladies and bring back the scuttlebutt
SNL has the skit uploaded to their YouTube channel:

I had never watched the original run of *Blossom*, guess I’ll have to look for it on one of the streaming services (or watch a low-resolution version on YT).
The 90s were just a generally brutal time lol. I remember that sketch and thinking it was funny but I was also 12 at that time and bullying generally was huge then AND accepted. SNL parodied everyone so it didn’t stand out back then. Now we can look back and be like “ooh, yeah that may have been a bit much since she was a kid herself” but it was just widely accepted that everyone was fair game to make fun of. We also didn’t have social media to voice concerns or speak our minds in the same way on a grand scale so you were limited in that way. I do think it’s odd she was told she’d be fired over it. That was a bit of an overreaction from them. But I get her not wanting to lose not only a job, but one of the biggest achievements a comedian/actor has a chance at like that. As they say, it was just different times.
I was alive in 1994, albeit a bit young at 6 years old, however I’ve lived on this earth for almost 30 years since then. All this to say I have NEVER ONCE heard of the “Hit Sitcom” Blossom. I also have no idea who Melanie Hutsell is.
While I think there was probably some strong-arming and probably even some light anti-sematic overtones to this sketch, the whole thing feels like such a huge nothing-burger. A sitcom almost no one remembers from 30 years ago, made fun of by an actress no one remembers.
I thought after the Bradley Cooper/ Leonard Bernstein discourse we had settled this?
Mayim did an episode where Blossom basically impersonated Madonna in the Truth or Dare documentary. It’d be pretty hypocritical if Mayim had an issue with Hutsell
Okay… It was just one of those bad unoriginal SNL sketches where they took a real thing, bad impressions, and no punchline.
Hutsell is my least favorite cast member ever. She was truly the worst with her stupid valley girl character/face she always made. She was worse than the RDJ/Randy Quaid season, and that was bad.
They’re condoms, for a party. I remember this sketch so clearly. Also Mike Meyers playing Joey. “Whoa!”
Not a single “sure Jan” post from you guys and I’m soooooo disappointed.
I’m sorry, but I absolutely do not believe that someone at SNL told her she would be fired if she didn’t wear a fake nose. That has to be a lie.
“Delta delta delta, can I help ya help ya help ya?”
The nose isn’t nearly as offensive as her terrible comedy. Gotta be one of the all time worst cast members. She brought nothing to this sketch, which I guess in its own way does make the prosthetic nose offensive, because it’s the entirety of the joke. Others are killing in this sketch though.
Gonna just down vote this to keep it where it belongs how’s this news 😭
