I’ve always hoped that the republican party would destroy itself before it got the chance to kill us all.
> A failure to reach a majority consensus signals the doom of an American political party.
No we aren’t. It would be good if it broke apart. But the party will survive, and of course continue to be a dire threat to practically everything that is good
Neocons lost the base a long time ago. Even Israel isn’t a unifying topic, cuz too many separate leadership from civilian. Neocons have nothing of value to peddle.
Thank god!
We have been witnessing the Republican Party fracturing since Donald Trump won the primary in 2016. It has been breaking apart for years! When Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney and Paul Ryan are called RINOs, there is something seriously wrong.
Or they will all move to the right which is the more realistic answer
I doubt it.
Hope I’m wrong but I really doubt it.
Thank you for the post, and thank you, Professor Thomas Balcerski for a refresher on American political history – as a teen in junior high I sometimes wondered about the importance of what happened such a long time ago – how was it even relevant to what was happening now? As an adult, I have learned history – American and that of other nations – is, indeed important, if for no other reason than the fact that we keep repeating our mistakes; we forget our history and suffer through tumultuous times to get to the start line again.
Perhaps we are seeing the dissolution of one party into several, but it also speaks volumes about the electorate – party politics is one thing, a polarized electorate who isn’t averse to trampling all over the constitution and bill of rights is another matter altogether.
Historically parties come and go in the US. It’s an anomaly that we’ve had the same two in this exact configuration for this long.
Don’t threaten me with a good time.
Why does this keep being treated as an “if”? The Republican Party has broken apart – evidence: we haven’t had a fucking house speaker for nearly a month.
Imagine if the democrats would go a month without a speaker when they had the majority. The media would be calling for the disbandment of the DNC.
Doubt. They’ll all rally around whatever fascist monstrosity the rnc chooses as leader.
I would love to see them break up, but I doubt they will, because it seems like evil will always triumph over good, because good is dumb.
The party’s been dead for a while 2016 was the dead cat bounce.
I’ve thought so since Trump was nominated for the 2016 election. I still think so but damn it’s like watching a big building collapse in slow motion, taking years yet still killing/injuring many people in the surrounding area. The GOP planted the charges themselves then handed the detonator to an obvious con man.
They will be fine. Nothing unifies the GOP like a threat to rich people’s wallets. Their concern over abortion, immigrants, the deficit, etc. is just window dressing for their singular purpose. As soon as Dems start suggest a higher tax on the rich, they will once again march to the same beat.
“watching” would be more accurate if the Republican purge allowed cameras.
Let’s hope
Ive been seeing variations of this headline for nearly 8 years now. Just clickbait at this point
Do these networks get tired of copy/paste the same headline every couple weeks?
The Republican party’s disgustingness is the feature, not the bug. Come to terms with the fact that they are horrible people and grow up. This is the world we’re living in now.
Their voters are either not informed or don’t care, so they are almost completely divorced from electoral consequences. On top of this extreme gerrymandering means there’s no incentive to be less crazy as the primary election is far more important than the general.
In a rational world they would be wiped out by a landslide for pulling this kind of shit.
I remember thinking there was no way the Republican party could survive the Bush administration destroying a historically successful economy and getting bogged down in one of the most useless and expensive wars in our history, but somehow these ghouls manage to keep their hooks in mindless rubes all over.
The problem with Republicans is that White Supremacy is a good example of weak thinking and externalizing. White Supremacists are usually unemployed or underemployed losers with a chip on their shoulder. The problems they face in the world, they believe, are not due to their inherent stupidity, laziness, lack of discipline, or other personal faults. No, no, it is the non-white people who “took their money away.” Good luck!!!
Like the government had no plan for a presidential coup. They don’t have a plan for a runaway party. Essentially getting their govt shut down by literally not functioning
This seems to be by design, to create the MAGA party. One more step to fascism checked off.
It doesnt matter if they have no leaders and no plan. The voters will continue to vote R until the Sun burns out. Its not a philosophy, its an identity; baked down into their core sense of self. Changing parties would be as difficulty as changing races or genders.
Making matters worse, the recruitment line is still open. Every day it reaches a new middle-aged man who is is a little unhappy with how life has turned out… it tells him its not his fault, its the damned immigrants and gays getting all the special treatment, and the Democrats have abandoned him in his own country! EVERY DAY more and more disaffected people find this comforting lie and sign up to ‘Take their country back’.
Anyone who thinks team R is about to collapse is setting themselves up for disappointment. They might lose, but the idea of a blow-out that reshapes America is a pipe dream.
Nah, they will just come back more toxic.
GOP voters will never not vote GOP. So none of this matters.
All they know is obstruction.
All they have been practicing is obstruction.
All they will be able to do is obstruct.
THIS is what you get when all you know is THAT.
If they (obviously) don’t know how to handle power then WHY do they want it?
Inshallah
Let’s hope so. Let’s hope they destroy themselves before they destroy Medicare, Social Security, SNAP, reproductive healthcare rights, clean air and water, civil and voting rights, child labor laws, OSHA, and democracy.
Promises, promises.
Good. It is a clear and present danger to the United States
I wish they’d hurry it up and unload maga. They’re the problem.
A lot of people said that the midterms were the downfall of Trump since most of his picks lost or underperformed. They said the Tea Party died when it just added conspiracy theories and became MAGA.
This awful party will always exist because there are too many awful Americans.
Being able to incorrectly blame the Democrats for inflation and wars well beyond our borders is the only thing holding the joke that the GOP has become together.
