An English article from the Estonian public broadcaster, with data sourced from YLE, the Finnish public broadcaster. On the article’s illustrative photo (sourced from fleetphoto.ru, authenticity not yet confirmed, original at https://fleetphoto.##/photo/443399 ), we can see a classic example of a failboat:
– some container stacks are tilted by 45 degrees
– it is safe to presume that some containers are at the bottom of the Gulf of Finland
– at least one anchor is missing
– it is safe to presume that the anchor is also at the bottom of the Gulf of Finland
I think the reason for the breaking of the gas pipeline has been found – weather was stormy and the Chinese-owned cargo ship (note: sailing under a Russian flag) experienced trouble. How and why they managed to lower their anchor is open for speculation.
China is not our friend. The sooner we realize this, the better.
This is absolutely shocking. China has always been the very image of quality, trustworthiness and honor. I just can’t see how this could have ever happened.
China is the biggest threat to the world! I hope Trump can return next year and restore peace to the world!
Lmfao the comments in there are wild, if anything it is showcasing some gross negligence from the crew and/or the shipping company.
You’re deluded if you genuinely think the Chinese state sponsored such an attack on an infrastructure by using the anchor of a container ship.
Fuck China
It is funny how everyone is like super secret operation by Russian terrorists and now it will fucking be mix of crew’s incompetence and bad weather.
But what to expect from average western redditor.
CURIOUS
This series of events is like a Yes Minister skit
China already asked you guys: do not escalate.
It’ll be interesting if anything comes of this
The thick plottens
Yikes. Any chance that this was umm… a prank?
How much could china/shipping company be fined for this?
Well it’s publicized on news.err.ee! It must be legit.
