You just can’t give any excuse for what happened in Israel – he should either apologize or better resign

By itself, it is not false, but only terror sympathizers and apologists have the urge to say it. Also, I don’t think the “context” people are talking about really puts the Palestinians in a much better light.
Did 9/11 not happen in a vacuum either? I would really like the UN chief to answer that simple question. The response might make even the U.S. resign from the UN.
This guy is a terrorist apologist shitbag
No one here read his statement. Abandon all hope of discussion.
He went on to say:
“But the grievances of the Palestinian people cannot justify the appalling attacks by Hamas. And those appalling attacks cannot justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.”
People keep ignoring this part, to frame his statement as “justifying” the Hamas attack. He’s in no way attempting to justify what Hamas did. He’s also not making any false claims.
Part of the issue with this whole conflict is refusal to look at the entire situation and acknowledge that both sides have legitimate grievances. Terrorism is never justified. Ignoring the issues that have resulted in groups resulting to terrorism is not helpful though and won’t help resolve the situation or bring peace.
Hamas is a terrorist organization and needs dealt with. However, if there is any hope of attempting long term stability and peace, there has to be acknowledgement of mistakes that have been made that brought things to this point.
Israel never gave a shit about the UN, so why now?
Israel also killed 10 UN Employees and 30 UN Students in the last week, so…
I think he’s fair to offer critique.
Frankly, It’s so embarrassing to see people commenting without bothering to read his full statement.
“Smoking may lead to cancer”
“Are you saying I deserve cancer? Are you saying cancer is good? Are you supporting people getting cancer?”
?
Israel is either just completely off it’s rocker or trying to stir up fake outrage. The entire statement is fine.
What’s the U.N’s deal with Israel ? Just look at how they have condemned Israel more than all these other counties that are objectively far worse. Israel was condemned more than all other countries combined in 2022. Now I wonder why that is ? I don’t agree with him on everything but Robert Kennedy jr is right about this.

So when will the steel cage match be?
What an inane comment. And yes, I read the whole of it.
No other country has attacks against it “explained” as much as Israel, and the days since October 7th have really been alarming in how far people will go to avoid admitting no country on this planet would tolerate what happened.
I’ve seen the mentions of 9/11, or Pearl Harbor, as a comparison. But even they fall considerably short. To make it proportional, what happened on October 7th would be as if around **45,000** Americans died on 9/11, with some 6,300 taken hostage. And, not to diminish the horrors of 9/11, the deaths aren’t due to buildings collapsing, but from death squads going door-to-door, often looking people straight in the eye and putting a bullet through their head. And all this from a hostile force that is right on your border, not thousands of kilometers away from home as most Westerners have experienced war since WW2.
Not one country on Earth — not even the most moralizing Western ones — would accept this, consider de-escalation, and agree to continue living alongside such an organization.
And because I feel the need to add this clarification to my comments about this topic, otherwise people would be inclined to toss me into this camp or that, because the most complicated conflict of our time that dates back over a century has been grossly, dangerously simplified: Fuck Netanyahu. Fuck messianic, religious Zionism. Fuck the settlements. Palestinians need their own state. The people in Gaza have a miserable life that no one should suffer. They have no hope and live in anguish. It’s terrible, and the situation cannot continue.
And yet, and yet, once again, not one country on Earth would accept what Hamas did and would accept a future where it continues to exist after such an attack.
Firstly so many didn’t read his full statement which is very good and doesn’t at all support Hamas. But even if you didn’t how is it controversial at all? You just need a cursory understanding of history to know events don’t just spontaneously happen there’s always background and context. His statement is pretty much as straightforward as saying dogs drink water. How are people misinterpreting it?
Israel: “identifying True root cause is not common sense!”
“UN Chief slammed for implying that casuality exists”
Hamas committed a disgusting series of warcrimes and crimes against humanity in its attack the other week. This is not the first time. The nation state of Israel has also repeatedly committed war crimes and crimes against humanity and it is disgusting.
Neither of these statements is contradictory and neither situation absolves the other of guilt. Two wrongs do not make this right. But it would be deeply dishonest to imply the two scenarios aren’t related. To insist that, for absolutely no reason but being cartoonisthly evil, Palestinians would throw away their lives to attack Israel just out of the blue one day.
Classic narcissistic response. The region has been in conflict the 70 years, so it’s not a ‘vacuum’. That doesn’t mean the recent attack was good or justified, it was still evil what happened. But the war didn’t begin on Oct 7th either.
Who do they think they are trying to silence anyone who speaks common sense?
Truth is sometimes inconvenient. Incidentally, you can dislike the politics of a country without disliking it’s religion.
I’ll give Israel one thing, they have a brilliant pr machine.
The flattening of Gaza also didn’t happen in a vacuum 🤷♀️
Surprised they didn’t straight up call him anti-sematic. That’s their usual go-to when someone stops pretending Israel is a perfect country that has never done anything bad to Palestine.

He even goes on to say that it doesn’t justify what Hamas did in their attacks.
He’s correct. Hamas is the direct result of 70 plus years of land theft and murder of Palestinian people.
When you leave people with nothing to lose, they tend to do things like Hamas has done.
That’s simple Psych 101
But it didn’t
