Apparently she’s still Secretary of State for Environment? I thought that was a temporary thing when we had Liz Truss for a few weeks.

Why did they give her this job. I’m still struggling with her lack of understanding of antibiotic resistance and being health secretary.

What the –ing hell? Yes she is environment secretary. And my MP. She has done –ing zero for the roads around here that routinely flood, despite using the worst one for a photo op. That she doesn’t understand that the wind often blows from the east is just grahghsghrrrr.
Thank god we built the Thames Barrier, under a different government. As it was designed to cope with the absolute worst storm that people in the 1950s+’60s could imagine. Although with climate change and rising sea levels. It may need some work done to extend it’s life if it’s to remain effective. Of course this government won’t do that, until Westminster is flooded. Then they’ll blame Laboir for not doing it in 1997-2010.
Makes for a pithy headline but is this as ridiculous as it sounds? If the vast majority of time problematic rain comes from a certain direction then obviously it makes sense to prepare defenses for that rather than the opposite.

The amount of money spent on flood risk reduction in this country is a joke.
It’s the least sexy thing to spend money on, until it’s too late.
To be fair, if the rain would fall upwards from the ground to the sky as fast as it does the other way around we’d literally never have a problem with flooding again. I think she’s on to something here.

I’ve always thought we need more scientists and engineers in Parliament to get a better understanding of science and technology; and then we get someone as lazy, dumb and dogmatic as Coffey who has a PhD in Chemistry.

If only she’d kept quiet, people may have forgotten how awful she was, after the tsunami of uselessness and corruption that followed… But like Liz truss, she demands to be remembered as a disaster.
