  2. I think now Richard Wagner is more known in Europe, than Bach, thanks to one dictator’s cook

  3. I don’t know who the lad for Ireland is. I’d have imagined either Toirdhealbhach Ó Cearbhalláin ór Seán Ó Riada would have been used.

  4. Xenakis for Greece?
Even though highly important and a pioneer, I wouldn’t consider him the most famous composer.

Sad fact, in Greece he is hardly known.

  5. A weird way to discover my countries most famous composer but definetly a welcome one.

  6. Lithuanian one is Čiurlionis, but I think he’s more famous as a painter, than as a composer.

For Belarus it could be Stanislaw Moniuszko/Maniuška, if we’re speaking about classical music.

  7. Why is France represented by Ricky Gervais?

I have a Debussy book at home and the portrait looks like Gervais just won a Golden Globe and is being really smug. Love the music, but the picture cracks me up.

  8. Bedřich Smetana’s “Má Vlast” makes me feel so much. Especially “Vltava”

  9. Remember to never finish on Debussy and always on Bach.

  10. Really proud to be in Bach country. Freaking love his music, my favorite to play!

  11. I think it would be a good idea to link a performance of (or one of) their most famous works, because honestly, I don’t recognise all of the names, but might recognise the music.

Also i think the title should be “classical composers” because I highly suspect someone like Andrew Lloyd Webber if much more famous than the other guy representing the UK.

  12. You picked Vivaldi, nice choice, but probably Verdi, Puccini, Rossini and Paganini are up there with him in terms of name recognition. If I had to pick the most famous among Italians I would have gone with Verdi, here he is the most popular of the classical composers, also because he is associated with the reunification movement.

  13. how about Eugen Doga for Moldova? probably less known and more modern then most here, but still

  14. Holst? I would have thought Purcell, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Britten would have all ranked higher for the UK.

  15. if you want some juicy drama look up french classical playlists on youtube and enjoy the rabid bickering about chopin

  16. Sarasate above Tarrega for Spain? Is it my classical guitarist bias?

He’s basically THE classical guitar guy. His influence cannot be understated.

  17. Choosing José Viana da Motta for Portugal is weird, considering that we have more famous composers, including Alfredo Keil, Carlos Seixas (one of the most important clavichord composers) and Joly Braga Santos (one of the most important composers of the 20th century).

  18. For Greece, I feel like Yiannis Chryssomallis is more famous.

  19. Obviously any list like this is going to have some debatable choices, but I would still be interested in just hearing the reasoning behind Hugo Alfven over composers like Bellman, or Evert Taube who are pretty substantial in content and influence in Sweden.

    Very cool!

  20. beloruzzia for real didn’t bring anything good to this world

  21. Its a travesty Mikael Åkerfelt is not representing Sweden.

  22. I love how Tchaikovsky’s face is so freaking big compared to the rest. Russia indeed it’s reaaaally big

  23. I’m french, and I don’t even know who this man is 😅

  24. Should be Lennon/McCartney for UK and Björk for Iceland 🙂
