This article is actually very well written. It does a good job at framing Azerbaijan’s co-conspirators as Turkey and Israel, and how Armenians have lived there for millennia and were democratic in Artsakh. Good reporting, Times.

And even if we wanted to interfere, this region is the axis of Turkey, Iran, and Russia’s spheres of influence. American hegemony has it’s limits. America can’t do anything outside of diplomatic support to Armenia.

Look, this conflict cannot be summarised in a simple way and goes far beyond Soviets and Stalin’s attempts to wreck the Caucasus, but the truth is, in recent times, Armenians overestimated their position after the first Karabakh war, had endless corruption issues that weakened their position and ultimately, elected imbeciles like Serzh Sargsyan that decided to turn towards moscow and flip a finger to the west. At some point, introspective criticism is warranted. Regardless of complexity and historical claims. I’m still more sympathetic to Armenia than neo-Ottoman desires of Turkeysphere, but frankly the last decade or so has been an unmitigated disaster on Armenian side.

They WILL invade. The international community’s silence and inaction has emboldened Aliyev. Why wouldn’t he keep pushing the boundaries when the only push back is “deep concern” and “strong condemnations”? They already occupy several hundred square kilometers of Armenia proper since 2021 and nothing has been done about it
