This has been known for ages. The police don’t have the resources to deal with it and retailers don’t want the liability of their staff doing anything, so it will continue.
We need CPS to actually charge people who are caught and the courts to hand out punishments that deter people, I see people lay the blame solely at the police but why should the police pump resources into fighting this if CPS are just going to drop the charge at the first hurdle and if it gets to court they issue a fine and suspended sentence
Saw it first hand yesterday, although they were stealing washing powder. Don’t think it was as organised as far beyond trying to get their next hit.
They know as ‘Tories’, and they pilfer the publics money by the billions. More must be done.
And so long as the order is less than £200, the police won’t do a thing. So check those price tags before you stuff things into your trousers – don’t want to get on the wrong side of the law.
I saw 2 shoplifters yesterday trying to leave my local shopping centre after stealing from various shops. Security was trying to stop them leaving. It got physical, but security did ultimately gain control and managed to pin them down
I see a lot of videos of shoplifters in the US just walking into stores and filling up massive bags while security just watches and maybe films them with their phone, and then the shoplifters just walk back out. I don’t think security in the UK would do that. From what I’ve seen anyway, I think the majority would still attempt to stop them.
Unless things have massively changed, there’s no way security would let you walk out when I was a teenager.
Does anyone else remember security ever just allowing thieves to fill up bags and walk out the door?
But it’s alright for our government to rob the working class of any right to have anything
