It’s a dealbreaker for the majority of Republicans that Tom Emmer didn’t vote to overturn the results of a Presidential election based on zero actual evidence, and that he isn’t outright hostile towards LGBT people.
But sure, both sides are the same.
The high irony here is that Emmer was a huge opponent of legalizing Same Sex marriage when he was running for MN governor.
I almost feel bad for him. His vote wad quite an about-face on an issue once central to his campaign.
Huh. Where does Jesus condemn gay marriage again, I forget? As a matter of fact seems to me an unmarried Jewish guy in his thirties living in first century Palestine and hanging out with twelve other guys just might be, oh I don’t know, sort of queer behavior, don’t you think?
Same sex marriage = bad, raping children = 👍🏻. Today’s GOP everybody.
It is crazy that it’s 2023 and the country is still this backwards.
Trump himself killed Emmers bid for speaker. Trump has to go all in on a loyalist speaker. The speaker is 3rd in line for the presidency. I imagine Trump figuring Joe dies off, then some maga/Jan 6 loyalist kills the vp – then a trump supporting speaker assumes the presidency and pardons Trump and family. Really I wouldn’t put such a plan past him.
They love to talk about the gays.
The GOP are such a fucking disaster
Right, cuz with everything going on, it’s “the gays” we should be concerned with.
The MAGA diehards in the House have no reason to capitulate; if they don’t get things their way, meaning a diehard Trump loyalist as Speaker, then they don’t want the House to function at all. They are taking the ball (not theirs) and going home unless everyone else plays by their rules.
The rest of the party isn’t completely stupid. They surely grasp by now that these people cannot be bargained with, and this means that they themselves have almost no power at all at present. As far as I can tell, there exist only two options: cave, or make a deal with the Democrats.
It’s frightening that they are taking *this* long to come to grips with that choice.
There are so many factions within the Republicans Party in the House that not one Republican Congressman can get a majority to win the Speakership. Everyone is so unlikeable. At some point, they are going to say pluck it and give the keys back to Nancy Pelosi. 😹
They keep telling you who they are.
>that the Minnesota Republican didn’t need to get right with him, he needed to ‘get right with Jesus.’” According to the source, “the room gasped.”
absolutely no way this happened
i don’t doubt Rick Allen said it but the gasped bit is 100% bullshit
these assholes say that shit all the time
the point of this ‘story’ is to launder the idea that there some republicans that are offended by not supporting lbgtq+. it’s all reputation management by fascists for rubes
“Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) echoed the comments on Fox News, claiming America ‘needs a Speaker of the House that reflects the values and the views of Republican voters in the country.'”
Sure. *That’s* why she supported Gym Jordan.
“Good, good. Let the hate flow through you. With each moment you make yourself more my slave.” -Joe Biden, probably
Nazi Party is in disarray…
These people are unhinged. Seriously why would anyone vote for Republicans when they are like this. They are good at winning elections and nothing else.
“confrontation over gay marriage between Reps. Rick Allen (R-GA) and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer”
i think they mean “confrontation *between* Reps… *over gay marriage*”
unless they’re married? which explains the gasps.
A bunch of pricks arguing over who hates the most people.
How DARE he support settled case law!
“It seems on your resume that although you’re a piece of shit, you’re not a COMPLETE piece of shit. Care to explain that?
I have run across lots of posts from R’s commenting on the toxic language being used to demonize them yet somehow they cannot see the hypocrisy of their words. If you do not agree with an R’s politic, that somehow makes you subhuman. It is fascinating to observe how they wrap themselves in the ideals of liberty and freedom – and the American flag – yet somehow those liberties and freedoms only apply to them.
I’m relatively new to reddit and I have found the r/politics thread to lean mostly left, which is fine – I perused the r/Republican thread and between the two, I honestly thought two different countries were being described – one of which had very little semblance to fundamental truths.
Attempts to force beliefs as it relates to religion, reproductive rights, sexuality, even skin color – isn’t going to endear you to an educated electorate. Sure, you may win a battle but not the war – history has demonstrated that time and again. Unfortunately, too many people in America do not appreciate history, which is a shame because knowing where you and others not like you have been might help prevent repeating tragic mistakes.
Ah, Religion, making things better for everyone since never.
Not from US so forgive my ignorance but who do citizens of the USA vote for if they support free markets and low levels of state intervention economically but also support a woman’s right to choose, same sex marriage and other individual rights and would like to keep religion out of the classroom?
Or do such people just not exist in the US?
The battle is more divided than the crumbs the people get.
Because GWAD said!
Anyone want to roll the bones for the next major decision of our Country?
I personally think that in a free country with a democratic-republic government we should rotate through or better yet have a vote of all the heads of the religious organizations to allow the main decisions for the entire country to reflect the diversity of our Nation. Lets not leave any out. We need to throw science in the mix to be fair so those that don’t believe at all can have their say too. Oh wait… They call that a theocracy. Sorry!
>A room of House Republicans audibly “gasped” during a Tuesday confrontation over gay marriage between Reps. Rick Allen (R-GA) and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer
are we still doing phrasing?
all these guys have adopted so many contradictory and rigid policies that everyone has crossed some line that someone else had.
They will not find a speaker at this point unless they are the ultimate Trump asskisser. Bottom line.
They are more interested in grifting and self absorbtion through celebrity gaze.
