The grim reality is that CATs aren’t the only piece of tacmed in constant, urgent need. Without going into too much detail, right now medics are hurting for chest seals.
As the name implies, chest seals seal chest wounds to keep air out of the chest cavity. Air in the chest cavity can put pressure on the lungs, leading to lung collapse, which is a baaaaad outcome. Sometimes air gets in before the chest seal can be applied. Vented chest seals give an extra layer of protection by providing an escape route for it.
So we want to send 3xR a lot of them. One thousand of them, in fact. We want to send as many as we can over with our board member next month. They’re small and light; a suitcase can easily hold a couple hundred.
Our ultimate goal is to get 1000 for them to distribute to units around the country. We’ll source them through Rescue Essentials, which has kindly given us a discount, and send them over by whatever method is most expedient in the moment.

For anybody who follows the posts from Protect a Volunteer, we have several volunteers we work with who recently had shrapnel wounds to the chest and then contacted us later to tell us they are okay. They were saved by good chest seals. These are very important!
