  1. If this woman wasn’t Ukrainian there’d be 20 posts in here from the bleeding hearts by now.

  2. It’s almost as if you never get a small minority of abusers with everything.

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water lads.

  3. So if a couple of people abuse the system we should kick them all out?

Ah crap I know 2 Irish lads claiming the dole while working.
That means all the Irish people have to leave Ireland too .
    Sigh *packs bag in sad*

    Edit/ sarcasm identified

  4. Of course, its just a human thing to do, to use every opportunity you are offered. But we have the russians to thank for this. Before 24/02/2022, this was not possible.

  5. Having read the article, the title is misleading.

Tl;dr “yes they are fleeing war but the area they are fleeing from is less disrupted than the area I fled from so they don’t deserve as much help. Everyone knows Ireland looks after refugees well, so they, not I, are exploiting Irish kindness”.

  6. The actual quote, given NewsTalk seems to have quite literally made up that last part of the title.

    >People from safe territories, they basically can go home and just leave space for those [from more dangerous parts of Ukraine],” she said.

    >“They’re fishing for opportunities.

    >“We cannot blame them because it is war and all the people are fishing for opportunities.”

  7. These things tend to happen when you offer people twice their average monthly salary in Ireland. Other countries decided not too do that.

Germany offers – 100 euros and 3 month free accommodation only .

  8. We need to change the refugee policy to nearest neighbour only and disallow any economic migration without popular vote.

  9. While fighting is concentrated in certain areas, the whole country is at war. Last winter Russia tried to destroy the electric grid and will bomb any city it canm

  10. Ah Newstalk. That paragon of accurate totally-not-fearmongering news…

  11. We are hosting a refugee, she comes from the west side of Ukraine, so not directly at risk. However, there is no oportunity for work over there, so she came her to work.
If she can get a job and earn money here let her have it. She is supporting her whole family while her husband is sent in the army.
Locals who complain can fuck right off if they don’t seize the opportunities they have and had for years. She does and she is right to do so.

  12. Title is misleading. Ukraine is Poland in 2004. Our supportsvare generous and not everyone fleeing Ukraine is because of War.

  13. Personally I see no reason for Ukranian males to be in Ireland right now. I heard Poland deported an awful lot for draft dodging.

  14. You don’t say. We couldn’t possibly have figured that out on our own. Thanks for the info.

I doubt this news will shock anyone that has any level of dealings with Ukrainians since the fighting started.

  15. Well that was quite obvious from the start, heading back home for holidays and health care absolute joke

  16. You’d have to wonder where the sligo murderer got his hundreds of thousands of euro from,

  17. Perhaps a better filtering mechanism would be to allow entry to residents east of the Dnipro (& Odessa).
